As-Salamualaikum,
I am from Hyderabad, India. I am planning to pursue MBA from US while being in close contact with mufti Nawal-Ur-Rehman sahib. I want brothers (especially, bro taalib_e_ilm) to suggest me which university should I apply for, to be in close contact with or nearer to Mufti sahab’s madarsa. I have plans to study Aalim course along with pursuing MBA. So any suggestions would be welcome. Jazakallah, Hussain. |

The closest would be Loyola univeristy, it sits on Devon, where Mufti Sahib is close to. But it's expensive, 27 grand i believe, UIC is a good option but it's a bit far from Mufti Sahib, Benedictine is good as well, though it's 21 grand. Any other Univ in US wherein we can have relatively good environment (Deeni Mahool) or one with higher muslim population... |

Most large universities in the United States have a sizable Muslim community of at least a few hundred people. However, it is extremely rare to find places like Chicago, which is blessed with countless `ulama, strong effort of Tabligh, and many mashayikh of tazkiya. Therefore, for most people, it will be a very good experience . Nevertheless, there are many other universities in which you can seek the same, such as in California, Toronto (in Canada), Detroit, Texas, etc. If you want specific names in a specific location, please tell us and we will name some . |

It will be of immense help if you could specify names of few Univs (with strong effort of Tabligh) in locations like Chicago, Texas and Detroit. May Allah shower His bounties on you for your immense help. Jazakallah. |

Universities near Chicago include: University of Chicago - very prominent, but difficult admission Northwestern University - also quite prominent University of Illinois at Chicago - public university (state funded), not as prominent as its sister at Urbana-Champaign. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is also a possibility but it is further away from Chicago. Loyola University Chicago State University - one of the professors is a good friend in Tabligh Purdue University is not too far off from Chicago and has a good Muslim community too. Near Detroit: University of Michigan at Ann Arbor is the only notable one I can think of right now. While Detroit is far behind Chicago, it is also near Toronto, which is quite strong. Near Tornoto: If Canada is an option, then the University of Toronto might be a good choice. In Texas: Texas is not that strong but you still find a Muslim community, esp in Dallas and Houston. In Houston: University of Houston Rice University - prominent but difficult admissions In Dallas, there aren't really any I can think of except University of Texas at Dallas, which may or may not be suitable. Finally, there is the most famous, the University of Texas at Austin. However, it is in a small city with some activities, not too many, and almost no ulama. Nevertheless, it has many Muslim students and is a 3 hours drive from both Dallas and Houston. In California: The University of California system. This has branches in Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. any should be fine. California has a good number of `ulama. Then, there is also Stanford University, which is very prominent but extremely difficult to get into. Finally, in New York City: New York University Columbia University - prominent but difficult to get into Cornell University - prominent but difficult to get into I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. (I'll be away for the next few days though ) most of the above should be ok. That definitely does not mean that there are other universities as well, but for more details, you would have to ask local residents. Also note that if you Google any university's name, you will find its website, which usually has extensive information. Request for du'a |

Salaam alaikum
Seeking an advanced degree from Ivy League university is academically no different from a similar degree from a state university. The distinction is if one uses the elaborate social network of Ivy League schools post graduation for employment, research, political office, etc; Ivy League social networks remain the most significant distinction between the Ivy League and state schools. So if you are looking for a research or teaching position in an Ivy League school, you would want to have a degree from an Ivy League school. The other significant difference is in the cost. This is ascertained from several people I know who attended Ivy League schools including teachers and professors. |

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
Just an honest question brother; why do you absolutely want to go to the United States of Fitna? Can't just do your studies in a Muslim country? I cannot understand why one would absolutely want to go to the US if you're living a country full of Muslims or at least near majority Muslim countries? I'd be interested in hearing your view/opinion/explanation on this, honestly I don't get it. Your brother. |
