Default When we do we cover our heads?

I dont know who to ask i hvent been in touch with my teacher my mom doesnt know so asking here;
Do we need to wear headscarf while doing Zikr/tasbeeh at home with no non mahrams? Do we get more thawab of we do?
What about when we hear azaan? And read Quran? Can we read it if we're wearing half sleeves or do we have to cover up our arms? My grandma says we need to cover our heads 24/7 otherwise satan relieves himself over our heads :S

Walaikum Assalam,

Alhamdulillah, the foundation of our deen is based on adab and great respect. Much of what you have mentioned is based on the great respect we have for our Creator and His Divine Book.

It is mentioned in Hayatus Sahaba that Hadhrat Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) would cover his head while using the bathroom because he would feel “haya” (shame and modesty) from Allah.

And Hadhrat Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) would never stand or raise his head while taking a bath because of the haya he would feel.

The Sahaba (radi Allahu anhum) always had the thought in their minds that Allah is watching them at all times.

And then there’s the story of the wife of Caliph Harun Rashid. She had done great works for Islam, she was the one who ordered the canals to be built for the Hajis, and daily there would be hundreds of ladies who would recite the Quran in her palace. After she passed away, someone saw her in a dream and asked her, “How did Allah treat you?” She replied, “Allah has forgiven me.” Then she was asked, “For which reason, was it the canals, the sadaqa , the Quran reciting?” She said, “No, I only commanded those things. The people who worked for those were the ones who will be rewarded accordingly. As for me, I was forgiven because of one deed of mine. One day as I was proceeding towards the bathroom, the adhan started, so out of humility and respect for adhan of Allah, I covered my head and waited till the adhan finished. And then I proceeded. Allah forgave me for this.”
(I’m sorry, I’ve written this from memory, so I’m sure there are mistakes which I hope others will correct in’sha Allah)

It is true that dreams cannot be taken as proof for anything, but the dream of the pious can be considered as a precaution or a “basharat”.

and narrations of our elders act as motivators and great reminders for us.

But much of all of this has to do with the level of our Iman. We are all weak in iman during these times, so it is also very important to know what kind of hijab is fard or wajib or mustahab during which times. So that we don’t make things too difficult for ourselves. And our deen is easy to follow, there’s no difficulty in it. And at the same time, work towards increasing our iman by increasing the respect of Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

And one of the best advices I’ve heard was from Maulana Yunus Palanpuri - that only those seek fatwa who want to live on the borderlines of deen. But a believer seeks taqwa. So seek taqwa. Alhamdullillah, this advice helps me every time.

I hope other knowledgeable members will add the exact rulings. Or you can search on www.askimam.com (For some reason the search doesn’t work too well for me.)

And Allah knows best.
