Default O Allah protect ummah - Bodos, Muslim Communal Riots in Assam, 19 killed
Guwahati , July 23:

Communal violence in Assam's Bodoland area continued unabated in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts and also spread to new areas. With the toll now 19, the administration has issued shoot-at-sight orders in Kokrajhar and extended night curfew indefinitely in both districts. Thousands of people have fled their homes in Assam after fighting between Bodos and Muslim

Out of the 18 deaths, 14 were reported from Kokrajhar and four in Chirang.

"We have issued shoot-at-sight orders in Kokrajhar district. The night curfew which was on in both the districts had been extended for an indefinite period. So far, 14 people have died in Kokrajhar and four in Chirang," Inspector General of Police, Bodoland Territorial Area District, S.N. Singh told IANS.

"People have abandoned their houses and shifting to relief camps. Some miscreants from both the communities are also taking advantage of the situation and are setting the abandoned houses ablaze," he added.

The ongoing violence also spread to Dhubri district in Lower Assam Monday forcing the district administration to impose night curfew in certain pockets.

"Curfew had been imposed in some sensitive areas under five police stations in the district -Dhubri, Gouripur, Golakganj, Bilasipara and Chapar," Dhubri Deputy Commissioner K.C. Kalita told IANS.

The All Minority Students Union (AMSU) had also called a 24-hour shutdown in the district Monday in protest against the violent attacks of minority community in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts.

"Police had to resort to blank firing in Gouripur and Golakganj area of the district after some bandh supporters tried to close shops forcefully. Some of the bandh supporters also damaged the office of Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF) in Gauripur town," said Dhubri Superintendent of Police Pradip Saloi.

BPF is ruling the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) which runs the administration of the BTAD areas.

Meanwhile, Assam Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nazrul Islam visited some of the violence-affected areas of Kokrajhar district Monday and reviewed the law and order situation.

Earlier in the day, an alert has been sounded in ten districts on the north bank of the Brahmaputra following communal violence in the Bodoland area, officials said Monday.

The army has been called in to help police and paramilitary forces in Kokrajhar and Chirang.

The National Disaster Response Force and the Assam Forest Protection Force are also being deployed in the districts to assist the civil and police officials.

According to official sources, the violence started after gunmen attacked two student leaders in Magurbari Thursday. Following this, four former Bodo militants were shot dead Friday.

There have been other communal riots in recent few days.
I think we at SF should have a complete record of such events in India.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihu rajioon.

May Allah protect the righteous ones. Recently we see innocent Muslims killed in Syria, Burma, Assam by Non Muslims.

Where are the Indian non muslim brothers who talk about humanity, peace, ancient religion?
no candles in the street?

come on dude.. even Muslims are humans, atleast have a concern for them in your heart.

surely, Allah will give justice to every creations - be its a hindu, muslim, christian, etc. Provided he obeys the creator

Eminent citizens demand judicial probe into Assam violence

By TCN News,

New Delhi: Eminent citizens of the country have urged Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi to take all steps to ensure that violence stops, security is given to all displaced and dishoused by the violence so that they may return to their homes forthwith. They have also demanded adequate reparation for the lives lost and homes and other properties destroyed.

Most important of all, the citizens have demanded a judicial probe into the build-up and fallout of the violence.

“We, citizens of India committed to its deep secular and peace loving ethos appeal to you as head of the government in Assam to take all steps to ensure that violence stops, security is given to all displaced and dishoused by the violence so that they may return to their homes forthwith; adequate reparation for the lives lost and homes and other properties destroyed is paid and more than anything else a Fair and Time Bound Judicial Investigation by a Sitting HC Judge is conducted into the build up and fallout of the violence,” the eminent citizens said in an open letter to chief minister Gogoi on 25th July.

They expressed their concern on the use of word infiltrators for the Muslim settlers whose status has been recognized in the Assam accord. They stressed dialogue between Bodos and Muslims for peaceful co-existence.

“What concerns us deeply is the divisive discourse that seeks to create legitimacy for the violence by words and phrases like "infiltrators." Since the mid 1990s tensions have simmered between the majority Bodo Councils and Muslim settlers despite the fact that the latter status was recognised in the Assam accord. Yet under the guise of discriminating between the two a small skirmish blew into a full blown communal conflagration; while the ethnicity of the 32 persons who lost their lives does not matter, the fact that the five persons who lost their lives to police bullets are from the minority has generated fear. There are already 1,70,000 persons in relief camps and they must be assisted with due security to return to their homes immediately. Dialogue must begin between the majority Bodo villages and the Muslim settlers for integrated rehabilitation,” said the letter signed by:
