May be a hot topic among some of you but there are some substantiating points mentioned in this article:
############### Is Khidr man or angel? There is some understanding among people that Khidr was not an ordinary human being. We will attempt to clarify the misconception inshallah. "...and there they found one of Our servants upon whom We had bestowed Our mercy, and to whom We had taught knowledge from Our own presence” [Sûrah al-Kahf: 65]. Mercy has been interpreted to refer here to prophecy, evidence for this interpretation in the Qur’ân: Surah Maryam 49. Thereupon Abraham dissociated himself from his people and the deities they worshipped instead of Allah, and We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob and made each of them a Prophet; 50. and We bestowed on them Our mercy, and granted them a truly lofty renown. The Mercy of Allah also refers to protection from the punishment of Allah and His torment. It may also refer to negation of the curse of Allah. Being creatures who only obey and praise Allah, angels do not need to be bestowed upon by Allahs mercy. In fact Angels make dua so Allah bestows mankind with His mercy and knowledge: Surah Ghafir 7. The angels that bear the Throne and those that are around to extol your Lord's glory with His praise, they believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for the believers, saying: "Our Lord! You encompass everything with Your Mercy and Knowledge. So forgive those that repent and follow Your Path, and guard them against the chastisement of Hell. The following hadith is reported in Sahih Bukhari on the authority of Said bin Jubayr (shortened): Musa states he is the most learned person among the people when asked, Allah rebukes him and says there is someone more knowledgable than him so Musa sets out to meet Khidr. It clearly implies Khidr to be from among mankind and not angels. Khidr asks Musa are you the children of Israel Musa? When Musa replies Yes, Khidr continues on to say that Allah had given him knowledge which Musa knows not and Musa also holds knowledge that Khidr is ignorant of, establishing a common "prophethood" link between them. Musa humbles himself to follow and learn from Khidr, this shows Musa's understanding of Khidr to be a person to follow in obedience and not someone extraterrestrial. When Khidr and Musa wanted to board the boat, the crew recognized Khidr and allowed them on board free of charge. He was an obvious and known person living amongst the community. In contrast, when angel Jibreel came in the form of a man with white clothes and black hair he had no signs of travel on him and the companions did not recognize him at all. Given we have established Khidr to be human the following points should put an end to any further arguments that he is still present and living at our times. 1 – The apparent meaning of the aayah (interpretation of the meaning) “And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad); then if you die, would they live forever?” [al-Anbiya’ 21:34] 2 – The Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that one hundred years after the night on which he was speaking, none of the people who were on the face of the earth then would still be alive. If al-Khidr had been alive at that point he would not have remained after the hundred years mentioned. Muslim ibn al-Hajjaaj said that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) led us in praying ‘Isha’ one night towards the end of his life, then he stood up and said: ‘Do you see this night of yours? One hundred years from now not one of those who are on the face of the earth now will remain.” Ibn ‘Umar said: “The people did not understand these words of the Messenger of Allaah SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and they said that this meant that the Day of Resurrection would come after one hundred years. The Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘not one of those who are on the face of the earth now will remain’ meaning that that generation would pass away.” 3 – If al-Khidr had lived until the time of the Prophet SAWS (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), he would have followed him, supported him and fought alongside him, because he (saw) was sent to the two races of jinn and mankind. Wallahu A'lam. |
