Default How to do tell someone effectively to pray?
My cousin doesn't pray but has the understanding she will go to Heaven because she is a "good" person. What is the best method to point out the daily salaah is a must?

Islam has five pillars for a reason, it does not say 'if you are a good person' you are guaranteed forgiveness. We are created to worship Allah the 5 daily salah are the best way to develop a relationship with Allah and to hope for forgiveness...not praying salah is false hope. Death is inevitable...imagine you will die in the next 5 minutes, what would you change about your life? Probably the fact that you are going to meet Allah soon and you disobeyed His commands and rules, not a very good state to be in, a Muslim must prepare for their own death not get too caught up in this temporary life which can end at any time...and the 5 daily salah are an excellent way of doing this given to us as a gift by Allah.

Tell her that we cannot make up the definition of 'good'. She may think she is 'good' because she has made up her own definition of it, but in the eyes of God she may be wicked. God tells us what exactly 'good' is and we must do it, one of these being prayer.

As-salamu 'alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh

Refer to the Qur'an:

(38. Every person is a pledge for what he has earned,) (39. Except those on the Right.) (40. In Gardens they will ask one another,) (41. About criminals (and they will say to them) (42. "What has caused you to enter Hell'') (43. They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer the Salah,'') (From Surah 74)

(59. Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who have lost the Salah and have followed lusts. So they will meet Ghaiy.) (60. Except those who repent and believe, and work righteousness. Such will enter Paradise and they will not be wronged in aught.) (From Surah 19)

So, woe unto those performers of Salah,) (5. Those who with their Salah are Sahun.) (From Surah 107)

(238. Guard strictly (five obligatory) As-Salawat (the prayers) especially the Middle Salah. And stand before Allah with obedience.) (239. And if you fear (an enemy), (perform Salah) on foot or riding. And when you are in safety, then remember Allah (pray) in the manner He has taught you, which you knew not (before).) (From Surah 2)

(1. Successful indeed are the believers.) (2. Those who with their Salah are Khashi`un.) (3. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw.) (4. And those who pay the Zakah.) (5. And those who guard their private parts.) (6. Except from their wives or their right hand possessions, for then, they are free from blame.) (7. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.) (8. Those who are faithfully true to their Amanat and to their covenants are Ra`un.) (9. And those who strictly guard their Salawat.) (10. These are indeed the heirs. ) (11. Who shall inherit Firdaws. They shall dwell therein forever.) (From Surah 23)

43. And perform As-Salah, and give Zakah, and bow down along with Ar-Raki`in.) (44. Enjoin you Al-Birr (piety and righteousness and every act of obedience to Allah) on the people and you forget (to practise it) yourselves, while you recite the Scripture (Tawrah))! Have you then no sense) (45. And seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer) and truly, it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khashi`in.) (46 (They are those) who are certain that they are going to meet their Lord, and that unto Him they are going to return.) (From Surah 2)

There are a plethora of verses that talk about the importance of Salah. Read through all the verses, not just the ones I put in bold.
