Default Br. Yousef Al-Khattab's son leading Salat al-taraweeh
Assalaam'aaleykum!

Hafiz Abdel Aziz al-Khattab is son of Br. Yousef Al-Khattab, a Jewish revert to Islam who is also a member on this forum. This is really amazing to see a Muslim brother with a yahoodi background raising his son as a Hafiz.

Mashallah

Does anyone know what style he's reading in?

Being only used to hafs...i think having to go through an entire khattam in that style would be a little disorienting for me.

Subhan-Allah.

He is reading in the Warsh i think, as it is visible from the Fatihah (maliki yawm without the madd on the meem i.e. maaliki yawm which is Hafs)

I wonder who Yousef Al Khattab is on SF.

Mashallah three of his children are huffaz.

i've been through some of his videos...he seems devout but i feel really uneasy about him. an extremist jew turned muslim first an extremist salafist then turned extremist ashari....what next?

whoever he is, i think he should spend some more time reading Imam GHazzali or attending dars of Imam GHazzali's books. I would reccomend him to listen to this series: http://www.islamicspirituality.org/l.../ayyuhal-walad

My locality hasn't produced any indigenous huffath so we're trying to work on that. To make talab for it seems hard around here.

Wa3leikoum,

"I wonder who Yousef Al Khattab is on SF."

I was wondering the same thing. Who is "Hafiz Gee" & how can we hold a slandering backbiter accountable for his/her venomous posts? Why would 'Hafiz Gee' assume I would post under any other name but my legal name?

"i've been through some of his videos...he seems devout but i feel really uneasy about him. an extremist jew turned muslim first an extremist salafist then turned extremist ashari....what next?"

What was extreme about me as a Jew? The fact that I had a beard as long as any Deobandi ? Extremist 'Salafist'??? I was far from being the most extreme in Mujasimah beliefs and reckless Wahabi fiqh. My former views were radical but I think the term jahil would have been better to slander me with during my default entrance to Wahabi 'Islam'. "extremist Ashari" please explain that term for me. I have only heard that used by the Wahabia that use it as a term to slander Asharis as "Kulabi Asharis". I learn from the standard Ashari books and proudly wave the flag of Allah Exists w/o a place. Today even those who spread Ahlus Sunnah's aqeedah are accused of being "extremist" or AICP.

"Whats next?" Well perhaps what will be next is you will mature & have the testicular fortitude to post under the name you can be held accountable for. Maybe whats next is you may start to consider where my self and 5 other family members converted to Islam and lived (in a refugee camp at (Palestine). Maybe you will think as you sip your falutha in the comfort of Canada "hey maybe if I converted in the scariest and most dangerous of places and was a victim of those circumstances I to would have a pretty "matter of fact" positions on issues"

"whoever he is, i think he should spend some more time reading Imam GHazzali or attending dars of Imam GHazzali's books. I would reccomend him to listen to this series: http://www.islamicspirituality.org/l.../ayyuhal-walad"

Whoever you are perhaps you take this Ramadan as a time to understand that obligatory knowledge is the step to focus on. Do not assume that you are the only person that learns Imam al-Ghazali. I prefer to learn it the Sunni way with my Sheikh. Try not to speak down to fellow Muslims and assume you are one that is in the position to give naseeha. Under a screen name you will not be given the assumption you have sinaad and are able to teach, advise or even be Hafith.

Last but not least and in all honesty and sincerity I don't get along with most people that use or refer to others as Ustaz Ghee or Hafith Ghee. I am not Desi and very proud of that. So,you will never be comfortable with those that find your culture repulsive except for the study of Deen. That is not racist because I come from a people that are full of repulsive manners as well.

That was a weird moment.

So any way.

Brother Yousef. I noticed your Maddhab was Maliki. When I converted to Islam I preferred this school of thought as well. I was wondering if you have some books about the Maliki maddhab that you could recommend?

I apologize for my earlier post. I was asking for it i suppose.

What was extreme about me as a Jew? The fact that I had a beard as long as any Deobandi ? lol it's a beautiful beard. Mashallah.

in my defence anyone who has seen your dawa videos on youtube (revolution muslim), at least two of which had been posted on this forum a few years back (obviously you have nothing to do with that anymore so no point mentioning details of them), would be justified in placing you in the extremist salafist camp during your salafi phase. regardless, i see no point in dwelling over this.

If my posts seem overly self-righteous then i apologize.

Regardless Br. Yousef i would still highly recommend that series if you have the time and desire, it's by a sunni mufti who is as sufi as one can get.

Brother Yusuf, please us desis are not so bad. My brother-in-law historically comes from a family of 'desi' jews haha! In any case the way you are raising your children as huffaz is an example and inspiration to me and others =).

Wa3leikoum Asalam wr wb,

I am not in a position to recommend books of fiqh since I am a layman or below. I can tell you that I would stary with a basic book like Mukhtasar al-Akhadari and for 3qeedah and general fiqh I love The Guiding Helper. I have other Maliki fiqh books on my site here:http://yousefalkhattab.forumotion.com/f9-maliki-fiqh and many video classes including the fiqh of Ramadan at the same site.

Wa3leikoum Asalam wr wb,

No problem akhi and btw I don't hate Desis I was speaking of the culture NOT the individuals. Imam Ghazali is one of my heroes and is perfect for a person like me. Why? Because they say Ihya uloom aDeen is the tasawuf book for those that don't have a Sheikh ;P. I focus more on Obligatory matters and w/o a doubt tasawuf is a science of Islam and one that requires LOTS more time than I have at the moment. Insh'allah I hope when and if I can ever relax to put more emphasis on this and maybe even a tariqa. Regardless, I hate to kiss and tell and if I ever do get the chance to really delve into Imam Ghazali I hope insh'Allah it will be evident in my actions w/o me having to say I learned it. As per Sufia, that term means little today. Let us pray that we can be like the REAL Sufis (Imam Nawawi,Imam ashawtabi etc etc). I don't even think we are worthy of the noble title.

Akhouk Yousef
