As-salamu Alaikum brother and sisters.
I had a conversation with a kafir, we where talking about how tattoos are not permissible in Islam because it alters the creation of Allah. He said that would make Islam hypocritical because people are born uncircumcised and Muslims are at birth circumcised and that's altering the creation of Allah right? And it had me stuck I didn't know what to say to him so we just left it at that. Can some one tell me if this would this make him... Right??? As-salamu Aliakum |

For example if its already circumcised in the womb of the mother, it a sensitive part and might be hurt/infected/etc. Might be its a coat of protection given by Allah. Allah knows the best. |

Wa'alaikum Assalaam,
I am new on this forum so I would just like to say Salaam to all brothers and sisters on here. As for the question, as muslims we have to be careful not to use the same premise as non-muslims (the mind) when trying to discuss halal/haram because we can only give a reason if Allah SWT has told us of the reason. For tattoos, I'm not sure if Allah (SWT) has given us a reason. If we go down the road of reasoning every command then we will get stuck and even lose the confidence in our deen as happened in the past. To give an example, I remember attending a university talk and the muslim speaker was giving reasons why a man is allowed to marry more than once and one reason was if the woman is unable to conceive. A non-muslim in the audience asked the question, what if the problem lies with the man then why cannot the woman marry again?! Obviously the speaker came stuck as he was using the same premise as non-muslims use. What he should have said is that it is a rule which Allah (SWT) has provided so we hear and we obey rather than reasoning the rule. Therefore, we can only provide a reason if Allah (SWT) has given us a reason. |

As-salaamu Alaikum,
As brother Nomadic pointed out, there are physical benefits to male circumcision. Modern science has only recently uncovered some of the benefits of male circumcision. For example, those men who are circumcised are at lower risk of penile cancer, as compared to those who are uncircumcised. Tattoo's have absolutely no benefit to your body. |

Some vocal people in the west are trying to say that circumcision of children is cruel, so they would say anything. It is the Sunnah of Ibrahim (AS) to grow the beard, shave the armpits and groin, to circumcise, to clip the nails and to brush the teeth with the siwak. These are not altering the creation because Allah taala has approved of these and commanded us to follow Ibrahim (AS). Allah taala has also told us not to get tattoos...so we refrain from it.

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته و مغفرته
It's a question that I have had to battle with also. Many people ask if Allah SWT wanted men to circumcise why didn't He just create us without a foreskin? And the question of child mutilation is actually quite a serious one in that there is no answer to it. I agree with the brothers in that all we can say is that is the commandment of Allah SWT and we abide by it, even though that would puff up the person who is asking the question. The only way to waive these questions is to as Brother Nomadic mentioned, to show the beauty of Islam and try to show them the truth that way. Because questions like these can only be accepted if you believe in Allah SWT. As much as I hate to say it (because I like reasoning especially laws of Allah SWT where the reasoning is there and we can understand it) reasoning doesn't work here and it is a case of total faith. The reasoning is something beyond our understanding at this stage in time. Maybe one day as another brother mentioned, we will discover the foreskin has a role to play in developement in the womb, Allahu A'lam. EDIT: that is disgusting formatting, I must remember to remember that enter does not work on forums like it does in an email... |
