157. That they said (in boast),
"We killed Christ Jesus The son of Mary, The Apostle of God";— But they killed him not, Nor crucified him, But so it was made To appear to them, And those who differ Therein are full of doubts, With no (certain) knowledge, But only conjecture to follow, For of a surety They killed him not:— The text doesn't actually state Jesus was substituted - this is in the commentaries -- an opinion which may or may not be right. It could be Jesus (as) was nailed to the cross but didn't die or maybe the whole event was an illusion to those present? There is no Hadith giving more information on the matter and this is the only verse in the Qur'an. Allah (swt) didn't see it fit to tell us what exactly happened except Jesus (as) didn't die and was raised up (4:158). |

We know he was substituted as it does say in the Holy and Noble Qu'ran: ...They said, “We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God." They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man (and they killed that man)... (Qur'an, 4:157) Ibn Abbas said: "Just before Allah raised Jesus to the Heavens, Jesus went to his disciples, who were twelve inside the house. When he arrived, his hair was dripping with water (as if he had just had a bath) and he said, 'There are those among you who will disbelieve in me twelve times after you had believed in me.' He then asked, 'Who among you will volunteer for his appearance to be transformed into mine, and be killed in my place. Whoever volunteers for that, he will be with me (in Paradise).' One of the youngest ones among them volunteered, but Jesus asked him to sit down. Jesus asked again for a volunteer, and the same young man volunteered and Jesus asked him to sit down again. Then the young man volunteered a third time and Jesus said, 'You will be that man,' and the resemblance of Jesus was cast over that man while Jesus ascended to Heaven from a hole in the roof of the house. When the Jews came looking for Jesus, they found that young man and crucified him. Some of Jesus' followers disbelieved in him twelve times after they had believed in him. They then divided into three groups. One group, the Jacobites, said, 'Allah remained with us as long as He willed and then ascended to Heaven.' Another group, the Nestorians, said, 'The son of Allah was with us as long as he willed and Allah took him to Heaven.' Another group, the Muslims, said, 'The servant and Messenger of Allah remained with us as long as Allah willed, and Allah then took him to Him.' The two disbelieving groups cooperated against the Muslim group and they killed them. Ever since that happened, Islam was then veiled until Allah sent Muhammad." —Al-Nasa'i, Al-Kubra, 6:489 I personally believe that when Isa asked Allah to have the cup pass over him and Allah heard his prayers and spared his life However as a punishment for betraying Allah's prophet, Judas was made to look like Jesus. And so Judas suffered and was crucified. And this is a possibility for the fact that there is no solid record on how Judas died. The Bible gives two stories. 1) He killed himself. 2) He bought land and when he went unto his land he fell and died. |

What you said here is in direct conflict with what you posted about the hadith narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (ra). |

Wa 'alaikumu as-salamu wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh But there is another belief that Judas was made to look like Isa as punishment and Judas was crucified. The one where Allah punishes Judas sounded more legit to me. It is related in the tafsír attributed to Imam Hasan ‘Askarí that regarding the verse, and We strengthened him with the holy spirit (2:87) he said, “He is Gabriel, and this was when Allah raised him through a hole in his house to heaven, and He cast his likeness on the one who had desired to kill him, so he was killed instead of him.” (Bihŕr, 14, 338, 10)) |

I know. That quote is from a Shia site and source. You should be more careful with your sources. |

As-salamu 'alaikum wa rahmatu Allahi wa barakatuh However, whether Judas or one of the disciples were crucified. The point is Isa wasn't. |

This is wishful thinking on your part, but the Shia have no standards for hadith like the Sunnis do. There's many Shia hadith in their books that their scholars will deny because it comes from poor chains of narration. So if you're Sunni you can't look at Shia books and take knowledge from them, in my opinion. |

I think I recall Israeliyat stories refering to Eisa AS being raised up on the arms of angels into the heavens in front of the disciples. This is from the Psalms (Zaboor) in OT:
For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11-12 |

Shi'ite, Sunni we all the same when it comes to some of the basics. Both worshipers of Allah and followers of the Prophet Sunni and Shia are not the same. The Shi'ite religion has kufr mixed with it. We don't take our religion from Shia sources. Yes, it is clear that Jesus (pbuh) was not crucified. |
