Default Fasting in other religions v Islam
Does anyone know if the Islamic fast is the strictest?

What about Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism? And the other -isms?

BTW

Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. Luke 4:2

Jesus fasted without food (and water?) so where do Christians get the idea of giving something up for the 40 days of Lent? It was a strict "proper" fast!

When I was a Catholic, we learned about Lenten fasting. When I heard they called it fasting I was a little ashamed. If Jesus really gave up food and water for 40 days And all we do is give up something stupid like chocolate which we end up breaking any way. It's not fasting.

In Judaism they fast from sunrise to sunset. So we have some what the same. Only we fast from fajr adthan to maghrib adthan. We fast a little longer.

But in the end it doesn't matter, because we fast for the one, true God, Allah which no one can say unless they're a Muslim.

Sikhs don't fast and Hindus have several different types of fasts.

Dont know about all those religions but I know that Jews fast for a whole 24 hours, rather than from dawn to sunset. But they only do that for a few days out of the year, and not consecutively, whereas we do it for 30 days in a row.

Christian fasting (although I wouldn't call it fasting) is abstaining from meat. They are still allowed to eat other foods and drink water. I dont if this is their normal fast, but thats what a few Christians did at my school.

So from what I know, Islamic way of fasting is definitely the most strict. The kaffara is the best proof of that.

Maybe they have different types of fasts for different occasions? I used to know a Jew from my school, and he told me that jews fast for a whole 24 hours. Allah Knows Best.

It's only the Catholics who give up eating meat on Fridays.

None of the other Christian denominations have mandatory fasting.

There are.

Sunni forum during Ramadan is interesting... the number of threads on the Bible have exploded. I think there are more threads at the moment than in all my years on the forum combined.

Sister, will you fast the whole of Ramadan? Also, how has your fasting experience been so far?

Even when I was a Catholic I didn't call that fasting.

When they were teaching us during lent they would remind us to were "fasting" from meat. I shook my head and said no,.... just......just no
