Shaykh Ul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimhullah belonged to a famous Hanbali Family. His father and his grandfather were great Hanbali scholars. Instead of relying on propaganda literature , i would advise you to read the biography of Shaykh Ul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah ra written by Shaykh Abul Hassan Ali Nadwi ra.
