Default Clarify how to read salat in jamaat
Assalamualaikum all and ramadan mubarak.

I have been meaning to seek clarification onthis for a while but i am not entirely sure on reading salat in jamaat - in that what i should recite and what i leave to the imam.

1. can someone give me an example of what i would recite myself say for Isha salat, where obviously the first 2 rakats would be recited aloud by the imam?

2. Is there any difference in what i recite to the prayers which are read quietly (Zuhr and Asr)?

P.S. I follow Hanafi madhab.

Asalaamu Alaikum, you would just make intention and say Allahu akbar with imaam and at the beginning of the prayer recite: Subhaanakallahummah wabihamdika and then from there keep silent and let the Imaam recite the Surah Faatiha and another Surah or any verses as the Imaam recites for the followers. Then just repeat Allahuakbar whenever the Imaam does. When in Ruku recite 3 times Subhaana rabiyal Adheem and Sami Allah huliman hamida and then rabana lakal hamd and then in Sajda Subhaanarabiyal Adheem 3 times. When in Tashahud recite Athahiyyathu and the durood and dua yourself and then repeat the salaam after the Imaam when finishes prayer with Salaam.

The same applies to any prayer you do in jamaat. It is the same for when reading the silent prayers with jamaat in Dhuhu and Asr. Easy really

If you need anymore help then please do not hesitate to ask.

According to Hanafi Madhab:
(assuming that the Imam is also a Hanafi)
In Isha salah, when the Imam says takbeerat-ul-Ihram and throws his hands up, you also throw them up and say "Allahu Akbar." After this there will be a small pause in which you will recite the thana (subhanaka allahumma wa bihamdika... to the end). This is sunnah to recite, so try not to miss this. However, if you come late and the imam has already started his recitation you should not recite this. You will not recite Tasmiyah or Ta'wuuz in any salah, regardless of whether it is silent or out loud salah.
Once Imam has started reciting Fatiha you stay quiet and listen. Then the Imam will recite a surah, you stay quite and listen. Then when the imam goes into ruku, you say "allahu akbar" and go into ruku and recite the tasbeeh for ruku. You also should recite the tasbeeh for Sujood. And you must recite Attahiyaat and Durood and dua' and finally the two salams. Assuming this is isha salah, the first two rakahs will be out loud. For the last two, you still must stay silent, even though you will not hear the imam recite, you must stay silent.

You will never recite Qur'an behind the imam, whether its a silent prayer (Dhur or 'Asr) or loud prayer (Fajr, Maghrib, Isha). The recitation of imam is sufficient for you.

JazakAllah.

Ok i think i understand, loud or silent salat all i say is takbeer of course, thana, leave Ta'awwudh and the sura's to the imam, recite "Allahu Akbar" when moving into ruku and other positions, tasbeeh for ruku and sujood, attihayat and durood and dua.

Or maybe to put it easier i still recite everything but Ta'awwudh and the sura's are left to the imam.

Yes, and you also leave the Tasmiyah (Bismillah ar-rahman ar-raheem) to the imam.
