The current Saudi politics are copy/pasted from US politics. Anyway, to understand the modern state of Saudi Arabia and its politics and foreign policy, one needs to understand the Oil industry. One of the best, most comprehensive works on the area is from a Yale and Cambridge Graduate - Dr Daniel Yergin. He is a pulitzer Prize winner for a work he authored - The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil Money and Power He is also Co-founder Chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Associates which is part of the IHS group that includes Janes Defense. He is also on the council of Wall Street Advisory Perella Weinberg Associates - who are currently advising certain mideast energy interests (Kurdistan, Iraq). http://www.pwpartners.com/our-team/p...graphy?id=1589 Here is an adaptation of The Prize, Some rare and interesting footage of the early Saudi state and the weeling-dealing the Americans did to under-cut the previous colonial power Britain after the destruction of the Ottoman Khilafa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qspu35JG59Q Very long, eight parts to this. You may need the best part of a day to get through it if you want to understand the backdrop of how Saudi politics developed from the final days of the Ottoman period until today. Hope this gives a deeper historical perspective of how things developed and you can draw your own conclusions. Allahu A'lam PS, hope Ramadhan started well for all, gonna be difficult in a couple of weeks in London with the Olympics starting. |
