Assalamoalikom.
I thought for myself why do some people (also here on this forum) create differences within the Muslim society by using titles too often. Once i heard a Sheikh(who after all is a mashaAllah Scholar ) using the term "deobandi" in almost every sentence. Mahfoom of what he said: "It is a qualityof a deobandi to be brave, it is a quality of a deobandi to be strict in Sharia, it is a quality of a deobandi to struggle for the sake of Allah" and so on and so forth" What?! The qualities he mentioned is qualities of a MUSLIM! Not e deobandi, brelvi, salafi, sufi etc... I know sometimes out of necessity we have to use titles like Hanafi, deobandi , brelvi. But why in the world so often??! Even here on this forum when some one have to ask: "but is the Sheikh you are talking about a deobani?" So what if he for instance has studies under other traditional Sunni Scholar, does it make him less pious, less qualified? Sad indeed.. Just my thoughts |

I know people here don't use it as a sectarian term but it is how it is seen by outsiders. Same is the case with calling bid'atis breilwis, a term many muslims have never heard of.
I also agree stating our madhhab is useless unless we want to ask a ruling from madhahib point of view. Displaying it on each post make it seem to outsiders we complicated the religion, which is obviously false. Wassalam. |

we use the term Deobandi to make distinction from ahlul biddah.
for instance, if i go to an islamic website and find out that it is managed by scholars of deoband then i will be confident in taking benefit from that website. otherwise i would have to be cautious and remain on my guard not to take deviant ideas from the people of biddah, if i am not sure about the people running that particular site. by same analogy if i know i am praying in a Deobandi masjid, i would be more confident with regards to the aqeedah of the imam being correct, inshallah. |
