![]() Alot of people complain about no Khushu n Khudhu in Salah. Here is an easy way to get it. If you do it inshaAllah you will develop concentration towards Allah quickly. 1) Muraqabah - 5 mins before salah sit and close your eyes. Turn your attention towards your heart and make it do Allah Allah. Increase the time when u get used to it. 2) In salah, imagine that theres nothing in the whole universe except you and Allah. And its done. If you loose concentration in salah towards other things then bring it back towards Allah again. If thoughts come, let them pass. Don't even think about them. Don't even think of removing them. Hope this helps. ![]() |

I have heard that when we raise our hands for takbeer we should throw the dunya behind us. Is this true? Anyone with any tips please post. |

![]() ![]() I generally try to do dhikr, but it's not very organised i.e. do it whenever it occurs to me - usually on my way to/back from work etc. Also I repeat the various adhkar somewhat mechanically without much thought, so I was wondering whether there is any benefit in that? Also at times I find myself paying more attention to keeping count of the number of tasbeeh , salawat etc. and have often wondered whether there is any benefit in keeping count. For example I might want to do 1000 salawat, but sometimes I feel 'reluctant' to do it when I am doing something else that will prevent me of counting at the same time, so I end up doing it only when I am able to count. Therefore I wanted to know if it is ok to recite salawat/dhikr etc. without counting as that is quite easy to do even while working. Sorry for all the questions. ![]() |

![]() The best exercise is Muraqabah. Take out some time to sit and do muraqabah. Turn your attention towards your heart and imagine it doing Allah Allah. The more you do it, the more your presence of heart will improve. Another thing is called 'wuqoof e qalbi'. All day imagine that Allah is watching you. Whenever your attention turns away bring it back. I generally try to do dhikr, but it's not very organised i.e. do it whenever it occurs to me - usually on my way to/back from work etc. Also I repeat the various adhkar somewhat mechanically without much thought, so I was wondering whether there is any benefit in that? Zikr of Allah is not without benefit. You will get the reward But mechanical zikr will not bring your heart closer to Allah. Amongst the actions prescribed by the Mutasawwifoon is that the person should perform the Salaah as if it is the last Salaah of their life. (i.e. They will die once the Salaah is complete.) A person with this kind of mindset, that "This is my final Salaah" will have full concentration of Allah Ta`ala and nothing else.
Also, Hakeem-ul-Ummat Hazrat Thanvi (Rahmatullahi `Alayhi) advised that during the Salaah the person should keep his attention on the posture he is in, and not concern himself with the postures and Rakaa`aat to come after it. What this means, is that if for example the person is in Rukoo` during the first Rakaa`ah of Fajr, then he should keep his attention only on this Rukoo`. He should perform the Tasbeehaat with complete concentration, have I`tminaan in this posture (don't rush), and perform the posture as if it is the last part of your Salaah, as if you will not leave this posture. Do this in every posture of the Salaah. (Concentrate on the posture you are in and do not concern yourself with the postures and Rakaa`aat to come after.) Also, the Wudhoo' that the person had performed, should be performed with concentration. If this is done, Inshaa'Allahu Ta`ala the Salaah will be performed with concentration. Besides this, for a non-`Aalim who does not know Arabic, he should learn from an `Aalim the meanings of the Tasbeehaat that is recited in the Salaah, and make an effort if possible to understand the meanings of some of the Surahs. This will aid greatly in concentration. Regarding the question of byellow200: Yes, when performing the Takbeerat-ul-Oolaa (The Takbeer to start the Salaah), the person should feel as if he is throwing the Dunyaa and all things besides Allah Rabbul `Izzah behind him. This has been mentioned in the Kitaabs of Maulana A.S. Desai. --- Wallahu Waliyy-ut-Tawfeeq. |

Masha Allah, knowledgeable brothers have offered many beautiful points to increase concentration in Salah. If I may add - I am summarizing what I heard in a bayan of Haji Shakeel Ahmed (DB).
Very soon one will have the Khusu in Salah albeit with constant practice. Please bear in mind that those are not exact words of the Shaikh, but what I could remember. May Allah forgive my shortcoming. |
