Default Warfare
As-salamu alaykum.

I have some questions related to warfare and I hope that I can find answers to my questions through this forum.

1) Did Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself fight in the wars he commanded? If not, do we know why not? I would imagine it was because he needed to remain alive so that the message of Islam could continue to be spread, but I would rather get a clear answer based on Islamic sources rather than rely on my own conjecture.

2) Did Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) command any offensive wars? I wasn't taught of any growing up, but I always hear Muslim speakers (not necessarily Ulama) state that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) only ever called for a war in defense and I want to verify the validity of that claim.

3) Are Muslims allowed to wage offensive wars? If so, what are the conditions for this?

JazakAllah Khayran for all of your help.
