Assalamoalaikum. I have a few questions:
1. Should i pray behind an Imam whom i think is not pure? I mean i have doubts regarding his purity so should i pray behind him? 2. And if an Imam pronounces the Arabic letters wrongly like giving a 'z' sound for the "dhaal" alphabet, is his prayer and the muqtadis prayer valid? 3. And what if the HALF the mosque has been built on illegal land and the other half on legal land. Should we pray in that mosque? I hope you have understood all what i am trying to say. Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for the reply Nomadic. There are 3 mosques in my locality. All of them have been built partly on illegal land. So you're telling me i should not worship there? There is a madrassa near my house but my mother thinks it is weird (and i do so) and she wouldn't allow me to go there. So what should i do?

By illegal land i meant this: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/34016. The blue mosque "invades" some of the unpaved road whereas the other buildings have been constructed besides the road. This is illegal in my country and therefore you can say that some part of the mosque has been built on illegal land.
And what about the pronunciation problem. I have seen many people pronouncing Arabic wrongly. The 2 "H" sounds are not distinguished at all. The 2 "S" are seldom pronounced differently. Is this not a serious matter. I myself used to pronounce wrongly until recently when i finally corrected myself. Wrong pronunciation results in the whole meaning of a sentence being changed. And Nomadic, what if the Imam really is not pure and the Muqtadis unknowingly let him lead the prayer. Will Allah accept their salat? |

why not? they are also human and can err or be lead to temptation by their nafs and shaitaan. they are not masoom (pure and innocent). if an imam (or anyone else for that matter) does something wrong (especially if it affects other people), then appropriate action MUST be taken. |

Do other people and the imam know that the Masjid is on illegal land. If so, why aren't they doing something about it? Found this: Praying in a Mosque Built on Illegally Owned Land All three masjids on Illegal land. Wow. Thats a problem. Brother, Find an 'Alim, and discuss these issues with him. |

I was praying behind an Imam for several years... day before yesterday i saw him doing BUSSSSS BUSSSSSSSSS MASAH on normal socks... Yes you should. Masah on normal socks is not permissible. However, you should first try to explain this to the Imam, and if he still doesn't listen, then you should switch masjids. |

The circumstance you're describing isn't that of illegal appropriation of lands by the mosque (which would be outright haraam) but violation of municipal laws. This does not make the mosque illegal but makes the management or whoever was responsible for this guilty. Also, have you spoken to the management of the mosque if what you believe to be the case is actually the case? It may be that the mosque management may have come to an understanding with the municipal government to permit these apparent breaches of municipal law. |
