Salam everyone
I am a recent convert whom has spent all of his time learning and studying more about Islam. I am a Hispanic American happily married to my Pakistani wife whom has showed me the true meaning of Islam. In case you guys are wondering YES both of our parents have accepted our marriage. My in-laws are very trustworthy towards me as well as my parents. All of them treat us as their second sons/daughters despite the difference in religion between them. Now on to the main course, I am a born and raised American. Ever since I was young I have always stayed away from drinking, smoking and partying which has made my transition to this beautiful religion much more easier. I have always hung out with my fellow Muslims back in school although now I feel that this environment has changed them dramatically. Me and my wife have been talking in moving to a Islamic country. Pakistan is obviously one of them although the corruption is pretty high there we are planning on opening up a school with my father in law whom owns 2 schools over there. Another country that I have been looking in to is UAE preferably Sharjah and not Dubai due to the many westerner influences that it has. Medina,Mecca,Egypt,Oman and Doha are other choices. I am currently majoring in I.T with hopes of one day relocating to any of those countries and to start living a much more pure Islamic life. Although no country can be called a "full islamic state" I would at least like to feel the life and be around fellow Muslims. The reason why is to not only learn and experience the religion to its fullest but to also keep my upcoming kids pure from the many bad influences that are around this area. Me being Hispanic may influences my kids to seek the "fun and trouble making" style to simply adapt to peer pressure. Im not trying to be negative towards my heritage but the fact that my kids would have to choose on what type of lifestyle they`ll want will make it feel uncomfortable. I don`t want them getting peer pressured in to not following the religion properly. What advice can you guys give me as to what country I should consider moving to and what careers are in high demand there? Thanks in advance for your help |

Thank you brother. Where can I find information on how to pray istikhaara? Salatul Istikhara [The Guidance Prayer] 1. Pray two Rakats of sunna . 2. Make the dua mentioned below. Rasoolullah said: "'If one of you is concerned about some practical undertaking, or about making plans for a journey, he should perform two cycles of ritual prayer [rak'atain], not as an obligatory observance [farida], but voluntarily [Sunna]. Then he should say: Attachment 7254 Allaahumma innee astakheeruka bi ilmika wa-astaqdiruka biqudratika wa-as'aluka min fadhlika al-adheem. Fa innaka taqdiru walaa aqdiru. Wa ta'lamu walaa a'alamu wa anta allaamul ghuyoob. Allaahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna haadhal-amr khayrun liy fiy deeniy wa-ma'aashiy wa-aaqibat amriy, fa'qdruhliy wa-yassirh liy thumma baarik liy feehi. Wa in-kunta ta'lamu anna haadhal amr sharrun liy fiy deeniy wa-ma'aashiy was-'aaqibat amriy. Fa asrifh annee wa-srif 'anhu. Wa aqdurh liyal khayr hayth kaana thumma a-rdhiniy bihee Translation: O Allah!! Behold I ask You the good through Your Knowledge, and ability through Your Power, and beg (Your favour) out of Your infinite Bounty. For surely You have Power; I have none. You know all; I know not. You are the Great Knower of all things. O Allah! If in Your Knowledge this matter be good for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. But if in Your Knowledge, this matter be bad for my faith (Deen) for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away therefrom, and ordain for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to be pleased therewith. While reciting this Du'aa when one reaches the underlined part, HAADHAL AMR (THIS MATTER) at both places he should think of his problem. Video of the Dua: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhF1HnM7LMY |

I have had the pleasure of going to Dubai and have liked the athmosphere but I have heard much better quality of living in Sharjah. The risk is that electricity gets cut off every now n than. UAE is definantely in my top list especially since my mother would not mind living with us once we establish our move Inshallah.

Masha'Allah, Alhamdulillah... Congratulations on your conversion (reversion) to Islam brother! May Allah always keep you and your family steadfast in deen and give guidance to those of your family members who have not yet entered into this beautiful deen. May He also make your current and upcoming generations scholars of the deen who please the creation as well as the Creator at the same time and spread Allah's deen to all of mankind. Ameen. Here is some more information on istikhara as well: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...o-do-istikhara Please remember myself, my family, everyone at SF, all of Muslim Ummah, and all of mankind in your duas brother! |

Thank you I will keep Malaysia and Turkey in mind. Yes I agree that TV pop culture as well as pop music has been keeping up within the Muslim world but the fact that there are masjids everywhere and you hear azan everyday will make it easier for us to influence the kids to pray and become productive Muslims. The environment itself will help facilitate and keep our children out of bad influences with regards to practicing their religion much more faithfully than as if they were living here. I have seen many Muslim kids here that are engaged with many bad activities let alone the amount of "freedom" that their non Muslim friends will have will also contribute in going against our practice. We of course will do everything that we can to teach them on how to be proper Muslims and we will also encourage them to have a open mind. This doesn`t mean that we`ll keep them strictly in the house. I believe that kids need to be social so they can carry it in the workforce but it all comes down on who they hang out with.

السلام عليكم,
It actually seems like you have a pretty strong support system in place in Pakistan. Most of the time, people don't recommend going there because of the culture shock and security situation. But if your in-laws think you would be fine, then I think they would know better about their particular area and situation and it would be fine for you. Once you get used to it, Pakistan has more resources in the way of scholars and Muslim environment then any of those other places. You do need to sift out the wheat from the chaff, though. |

Thanks for your advice. I agree with the resources. Culture shock shouldn`t be a major issue for me as I have quickly adapted towards my wife`s culture. I wear kurta/shalwar even when I head out to run errands. As far as security issue I have been able to blend in well due to my Hispanic figure but then again somehow there are people whom knows that I`m a foreigner without even hearing my accent. If you have BA and get a CELTA for English teaching you can easily come to Saudi. |
