It usually refers to "western", when used in urdu.

JazakAllah Khayr. Would it be possible to take bai'ah with sheikh Yusuf Motala sahib if one can only speak, read and write in English? I want to take bai'ah with sheikh but I don't understand urdu.

Would it be ok to send sheikh a letter in English?

Wasalaam
it is a year late...however people should be aware that Shaykh db does understand english. There have been majalis in which Shaykh accepted bayat in english. There are also many of shaykh's khulafa who give regular talks in english if you think that will help you benefit more.
