Ten things which awaken TAQWA
By Imam Ibn Juzayy
http://tazkiyatips.blogspot.com/2012...ken-taqwa.html

"The author Ibn Juzayy al-Kalbi was born in 693 AH. His name was Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad, called al-Qasim, ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Juzayy al-Kalbi, i.e. from the Arab tribe of Kalb, may Allah be pleased with him and make him contented, and make the Garden his shelter. He was al-Gharnati (from Granada in Andalusia, Spain) and thus European. Ibn Juzayy wrote widely on all the sciences of his day: hadith, fiqh, Qur'anic recitations and tafsir. He died fighting as a shaheed in the Battle of Tareef in the year 741 AH." (from the introduction to "The Sciences of Tafsir")

Another Quranic method for attaining Taqwa is stressed upon by the Mashaikh - company of the sadiqeen (pious) "Oh you who believe, fear Allah and be with the Truthful" (Surat Al-Tawba, Ayah 119)

bro.

Ten things which awaken TAQWA

There are ten things which awaken Taqwa (Fear of Allah):

1. Fear of punishment in the next life;

2. Fear [of punishment] in this life;

3. Hope of worldly reward;

4. Hope of the reward of the next world;

5. Fear of the reckoning;

6. Shyness and bashfulness before the gaze of Allah, and this is the station of fearful watchfulness [muraqabah];

7. Showing gratitude for His blessings by obeying Him;

8. Knowledge, because of His words, “They only fear Allah, of His slaves, the ones who have knowledge”;

9. Exalting and honouring His majesty, and it is the station of awe;

10. Sincerity in love for Allah.

The approaching Ramazan reminds me of one more thing for attaining Taqwa- Fasting! As Allah says in the Quran: "O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)." (2:183)
