Default What to watch instead of Peace TV?
As salamu alaikum

Can anyone recommend some good videos or audio lectures (English) to watch/listen to instead of Peace TV? It's true there is good in it, but there is also bad (my older sister has become vehemently la-madhhab from watching it, now my mum is starting to go that way too). My mum spends a lot of time watching this when she's home alone, and the barelwi channels (I can't say anything of that since I can't understand urdu). I'd rather wean her onto something safer for her deen. I've searched the interwebz, but it's so hard to know who you can trust and who you can't, so I'd prefer personal recommendation.

Anyway, I want to download them onto DVD and she can watch those. I know there's a lot of stuff on youtube, but the quality is so low, it's unwatchable on our TV. So just simple things, like seerah, behaviour, comparative religion, and so on, nothing too in-depth.

Jazakallah khayr.

PS I've showed her the Naik vs madhhab article on muftisays, which she won't read as "they just have a vendetta" against him cos he's "taking money that they want"??? Even his "I can name you 1000 things Allah can't do" wasn't enough to prove he speaks of things with no knowledge (she says it's taken out of context even though I showed her the actual book). I don't want to turn this into a debate, we have enough of those already, but I would appreciate a simple summary of why one shouldn't take deeni knowledge from him, if that's okay.

,

Try Iqra TV with Mufti Abdul Wahhab (HA). From what I saw his short speeches appear very beneficial to people. He also answers question and gives dream interpretations.

Edit : I'm referring to the channel emitting from the UK, not the arab one who's controversial.

The book I have doesn't mention the "thousand things" part specifically, but some of the other stuff about saying what Allah can and can't do is mentioned in it. The booklet I have is The Concept of God in Major Religions.

..Allah subhantala cannot make a fat thin man there are a thousand
things I can list which God almighty can't do .God cannot tell a lie
the moment he tells a lie.. he ceases to be God God cannot be
unjustthe moment he is unjust he ceases to be GodGod cannot be cruel
..God cannot forget ..you can list a thousand things ..God almighty
cannot throw me out of his domain.the full world the full universe
belong to himhe can kill me, he can obliterate me, he can make me
vanish ..but he cannot throw me out of his domain to him belongs
everything ..where will he throw mehe can kill me ,the can
obliterate me..he can make me vanishbut he cant throw me out of his
domain [3]nowhere does the quraan say God can do everything ..infact
quraan saysinnAllaha ala kulli shai in Qadeer that verily Allah has
Power over all things..quraan doesn't say God can do everythingquraan
says God has power over all thingsseveral places.surah baqrah
chapter no.2 verse no.106 surah baqrah chap 2 verse 108.. surah imran
aali imran chapter no. 3 verse 29 in surah nahl chapter no.16 verse
no. 77 in surah faatir chapter 35 verse no.1 several places the
quraan says the quraan says innaAllaha ala kulli shaiin Qadeer..verily
Allah has power over all thingsand there is a world of a difference
between Allah can do everything and Allah has power over everything
infact Quraan says in Surah Buruj chapter no.85 verse no. 15, and 16
it says that Allah is the doer of all He intends.see whatever He
intends He can dobut God only does Godly things ..he does not do
unGodly things. ( Is Quraan Word of God, from the CD-"Presenting
Islaam and Clarifying Misconceptions -Lecture series by Dr.Zaakir
Naik, Developed by AHYA Multi-Media- 12 Enlightening Sessions) Anyway, please, I don't want to turn this into another Naik-bashing thread. Just a summary explaining why he shouldn't be listened to for fiqh/aqidah, cos I suck at explaining things.

I thought your mother would understand urdu. Yes Iqra TV is definitely a good alternative (although TV shouldn't be watched hours long).

looks like Zakir Naik is earning some ajr then inshAllah. May Allah give him ajr from those who are backbiting him. Allahumma Ameen. He's brought more people to Islam then all of you put together. I never heard him mention a deobandi alim by name. I get that you guys folllow madhabs, and there is no harm in explaining why you hold a certain position, but slinging mud at a caller to Allah when teh ummah is in the current situation is just sad and pathetic and another reason why I wish I had lived in any other time period except this one, I wish I wasnt part of the current jamaatal muslimeen, you people have been teh worst fitnah for my imaan, Im not muslim because of you, Im muslim dispite you

Salam `Aleykum Dawoud,

I know what you mean but take it easy, don't give a matter more than it deserves and don't forget that you're talking to random Muslim laypeople over the internet.

wa alaykum salaam

the sad thing is, they are such staunch ADVOCATORS of taqleed. Yet they dont practice what they preach. Their own scholars signed and agreement with the salafis stating random internet lay peopel woudlnt debate and woudlnt mention names of each other in refutation of disagreed points, and that they would cooperate in khair, this thread breaks all of these points

honestly, the muslim community does my head in

I don't get it. No one has said anything bad about Zakir Naik on this thread. They merely said he speaks without knowledge, which is absolutely true. People need to be made aware that he cannot be trusted in matters of fiqh.

Mentioning his very name goes against the pledge that was signed by YOUR OWN SCHOLARS so do you make taqleed or not?

have you ever listened to his talks?
in one , i remb, he clearly stated that i will take the opinions of the first three generations but not of a scholar (thats not the word he used) after that.
do you realize what a fitnah that is?first step of leaving Islam is to have disrespect of scholars. next step is to pick and choose between scholars according to your nafs, third step is to do your own ijtihad, and then from ghair muqallid one becomes munkar e hadith/shia/qadiani very easily.
this is the reality. this is why we oppose salafis. now i hope you understand who the real cancer is.

p.s ironically imam abu hanifah was from the first three generations. but imam bukhari, muslim and rest of the authors of sahih sitta were not.
