Default Clinton Unconvincingly Urges Democracy in Egypt
http://news.antiwar.com/2012/06/14/c...racy-in-egypt/

The Obama administration's support for a democratic transition is mere rhetoric

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday said the US expects Egypt’s military authorities to fully transfer power to a democratically elected civilian government, following the country’s high court decision to dissolve the newly-elected parliament.

“There can be no going back on the democratic transition called for by the Egyptian people,” Clinton said, declining specific comment on the recent court ruling, which also included giving old regime members a green light to continue his bid for Egypt’s presidency.

But Clinton’s statement is nothing more than empty rhetoric. In order to accept it as genuine, one has to erase recent history which saw extensive US support for the former dictator Hosni Mubarak over the course of several decades. It was only after it was clear Mubarak would be ousted, that the Obama administration sided – at least rhetorically – with the people and asked for Mubarak to step down.

Of course, the very next move was to advocate and push for the preservation of as much of the Mubarak regime as they could, namely suggesting Mubarak’s brutal vice president, Omar Suleiman, replace the long-standing US puppet.

The US is still sending billions of dollars in aid to Egypt and continues to arm the military rulers, even as they have brutalized peaceful protesters and inhibited a swift return to civilian rule. Washington’s support has remained with the military junta from the beginning.

We are living through time when Democracy has become the only acceptable form of government. This means a climate has been created which attempts to force everyone along this way, anyone who disagrees is dismissed as a unbeliever....it is Totalitarian and needs people to reject it with glee. It is possibly the worse form of government throwing up the lowest character of people and putting them in charge.

Brother, I recommend spending less time reading about politics and the economy. I used to be obsessed with it a few years back, but it's just going to make you depressed.

Brothers, is there a sign that anyone is becoming 'obsessed' with politics?

Let us look at some symptoms of obsession:
* abandoning or neglecting relationships in pursuit of politics ( eg. have you talked to your mother or father recently?),
* missing prayers or ibaadah due to politics,
* feeling overwhelmed due to politics.

Otherwise, believers should be acutely aware of "siyasasa islami: the affairs of the Muslim people".
We should no longer be fooled like we have been for decades if not centuries.

These are some of the most intense times than I can recall in the last 20 years. Now is the time for believers to be keenly aware, to know what Allah and His Messenger (saaw) expect of them, to know what to avoid in the service of Allah, and for what to plan and expect.

That said, NNoor is right that believers should have a balanced understanding. We must know how to strengthen our Deen, our sabr, our Taqwa, and how to find Sakina through ibaadullah. Without this, we can become overwhelmed and in despair.

And Allah knows best.

I agree Muslims should be aware, but I keep seeing threads and links to articles that supposedly "reveal" the dirty dealings of the West. I just didn't realize those were secret any longer except to the most ignorant or simple-minded. It's one thing to skim news reports, and another to rehash endless discussions about bankers and politicians and their diabolical plots. I think most of us are aware of them already.

Actually brother - sadly many many Muslims are not as aware of these things as they should be - things are not looking very rosy in the future but people are just obssessed about the here and now, so when the going gets tough they will be left in a lurch.

Aww, c'mon I didn't mean it like that. I just meant to clarify my original post. Spending too much time reading and talking about this stuff will just bring you down, especially because most of us little people can't do much about it. I certainly wish I could take down the banks, but I don't know how to do it, so it doesn't do me any good to brood over it too much.

On the other hand, as the other brother suggested, I guess not everyone is aware of these things so they should be made aware.
