What are your oppinions on this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-18418045 Family convicted of kidnapping woman in marriage row Khan (far left) and Mahmood (far right) pleaded guilty and her father and sister (centre) were cleared Continue reading the main story Related Stories Daughter 'drugged and kidnapped' The mother, brother and brother-in-law of a Bradford woman have been convicted of drugging and kidnapping her in a row over marriage. Naila Afsar, 23, fled her family home in 2009 to avoid being forced into marrying her cousin. Preston Crown Court heard she married another man in secret, but when she met her family they tried to kidnap her. Shamim Akhtar and Shamrez Khan, from Bradford and Zahid Mahmood, from Accrington, were remanded in custody. All three are due to appear before Burnley Crown Court for sentencing on 10 July. Mother Mrs Akhtar, 56, of Kirkwall Drive, Bradford, was found guilty of false imprisonment, kidnap and two counts of administering a drug with intent to commit an indictable offence. Brother Shamrez Khan, 32, Moore Avenue, Bradford, and brother-in-law Zahid Mahmood, 34, of Empress Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty last week to false imprisonment, kidnap and two counts of administering a drug with intent to commit an indictable offence. Father Mohammed Khan, 57 of Scotchman Road, Bradford, and sister Saima Mahmood, 29, of Empress Street, Accrington, were cleared of the same charges. Mother Shamim Akhtar was found guilty at Preston Crown Court The court heard how Ms Afsar left her home in Bradford to avoid being forced into an arranged marriage and moved to Newcastle, where she met and married another man. Soon afterwards, she visited her parents with her husband in the hope of a reconciliation, but were told to divorce. In January 2010, her family contacted her and persuaded her to visit her sister and brother-in-law's home in Accrington. Two days later, she was given a milky drink laced with a sedative, causing her to become nauseous and drowsy, and was bundled into a car with the intention of being taken back to Bradford. Concerned for her safety, her husband called police later that day and she was found in the car at a petrol station in Rossendale. She was taken to hospital and the defendants were arrested later that day. Det Insp Mark Vaughton from Lancashire Constabulary said: "This has been a long and complicated enquiry which has involved a number of members of the same family. "It has been particularly traumatic for the victim who has been forced into hiding to escape abuse from her family. "It has been a horrendous ordeal for the young woman who has been treated in the most dreadful way by the people who were supposed to protect and care for her. "She has shown immense courage in coming forward and officers have been supporting her throughout the investigation." Police are urging anyone who may be suffering in similar circumstances to come forward and contact them. |

I think the American Pakistani community is different. They seem more educated, enlightened etc. Can someone shed some light on this? I have been told by a Pakistani friend that the overwhelming majority of Pakistanis in the U.K emigrated from the villages{she calls them paindoos who speak a rough language called Mirpuri}...so that explains why these sort of horrors continue to happen here. Where as the ones who left for America, were from the educated class back in Pakistan/India etc.

i think the article referred to a british pakistani family and so that is why she used their name when she replied. i sympathize with her condition. the whole community gets targeted and ridiculed because of the actions of a few. it hampers the dawah. |

Muwaffa2{successful} inshaAllah.
![]() If it gets sorted out in Pakistan or where ever else this happens {root} trust me these pakistanis here who have transported it will follow suit. We as Muslims need to get rid of all our ugly traditions because if we just don't do anything we're harming ourselves, other Muslims and Islam as a whole. |

Dang wish I was in America instead now. It really sucks having to live and interact with such uneducated/poorly educated people! I used to look down on "paindus" as well until alhamdulillah Allah put it in my heart that they might be a hundred times better in His sight than lowly old me. this is a general comment, not a comment on the actions of the family in the first post. |

People need to be told this is unacceptable in Islam, but it is not only back-home traditions that need to be cleansed - plenty of our youth have taken jahil British culture upon themselves too and I feel so distraught thinking of the coming British Muslim generations. Multi-pronged strategies to deal with ALL jahilliyah is urgently needed.

If you are referring to scholars as uneducated/poorly educated then thats really sad, instead its you who needs to get educated. You need to understand how important they are to us all, we really need them for our islah and they are the flag bearer of deen. You might not agree with them on some points, but your name calling is wrong. |

I THINK TEHSE JAAHIL PRACTICES COME FROM BEING BLIND FOLLOWERS. IF ONLY THEY READ THE QUR'AN AND SUNNAH RATHER THAN BLIND FOLLOWING CULTURE AND LOCAL MULLAHS< FORCED MARRIAGE AND JAAHIL PRACTICES WOULDNT BE SO WIDESPREAD!!! dont wanna hear it? Then stop using these same mud slinging tactics against salafis and arabs |
