Default Jamaat on bicycles to France!
Salam Aleykum!
We (De Montfort University Islamic Society - DMU ISOC) just came back from our cycling "jamaat" from Leicester to Cardiff, to raise money and awareness about what's happening in Syria.

Now we are thinking about going to France in early July. I want to ride as far south as possible, maybe Marseilles

What do you think about that idea? Anyone ready to go with us?

This is NOT a joke

I think this is a fantastic idea!

May Allah (SWT) protect you and the other riders, give you all the strength to make it to the goal and help raise the funds for the cause. Ameen.

Ah I see, "pedal" Jamaat. May Allah put barakah in your every turn of the pedal.

11 of us completed all route. One brother had to stop in the middle.
On first day we went from Leicester to Gloucester (80 miles) and on second day from Gloucester to Cardiff (about 60 miles).

First day we spent about 5 HOURS repairing bikes (7 punctured inner tubes!). Day 2, Alhamdulillah, only one bike broke 10 miles before Cardiff.

!

Brother may I ask what sort of attire you brothers wear (and/or planning to wear) on these biking trips? Do you wear Sunnah attire such as kurta/thobe, or do you wear shorts/pants where it is 'easier' to pedal and ride the bike?

May Allah reward you all abundantly with all that is good in this life and in the hereafter. Ameen.

Wa Aleykum Salam!

In UK it is legal to wear turban instead of the helmet on motorcycle! You have to wear one of them though.
Because of our safety we were wearing 3/4 tracksuit bottoms. In evening, after we arrived I would put thobe on, also for prayers. In Leicester I always cycle wearing thobe, but when you ride really fast on A roads, it becomes dangerous.

السلام عليكم

Hazrat, my understanding was that "pedal Jamaat'' is a term used generally with Tableegh Jamaat. Is this brothers trip it anyway associated with Khuruj in Tableegh Jamaat?

I have two questions

2)what sort of cycles have you used for your Leicester-Cardiff journey?

1) I don't know how to use this question. I think the best way would be - if you marry me you can go. Otherwise it would be to many chances for Shaitan (accidents, in hotel rooms, etc.)
2) The best would be proper road bikes, but some brothers had mountain bikes. I had mountain bike with road tires.

I don't mind personally. Women are as good with cycling as men, but I am afraid of "free mixing". From fiqh perspective it is not allowed either. Woman is not allowed to travel more then distance of 3 days without mahram. that will be distance of about 10 days on bike.
