Default Is the wearing of animal skins haram??
I have several pairs of cowboy boots made from various animal skins; rattlesnake, elephant, alligator, aardvark, lizard, python, shark, etc.

During one of brother Melbournes numerous rants. He said that wearing animals skins was haram.

Specifically, the skins of animals that muslims are not allowed to eat.

True?

Leather is made by tanning animal rawhide and skin. The hide is then considered pure and permissible to use. Leather made from any animal other than pig is permissible. [8]

Is it permissable to make, wear or sell clothing and footwear made of wild animal skins eg. Elephant,Hippo Zebra etc ?

The skin of all animals besides a pig may be used after it is purified through the tanning process.

Thank you for the reply.

I guess Melbourne was just saying that out of spite.

Isn't knowingly giving out false information like that some kind of a sin or something?

I didn't say it out of spite, but Half hate & half guidance, but being lazy is a sin revert...
And all the childish questions so far shows your laziness...
Islam Q&A differed from your opinion sister mercy of Allah.
We may add another reason to that, which is that they are naajis (impure), because tanning does not make any skin pure except the skin of an animal that we are permitted to eat. Whatever we are not permitted to eat, its skin cannot be made pure by tanning. This is the view of al-Awzaa’i, ‘Abd-Allaah ibn al-Mubaarak and Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh, and it was narrated from Imam Ahmad. See Sharh Saheeh Muslim by al-Nawawi, 4/54; al-Furoo’ by Ibn Muflih, 1/102*

Guys, please pipe it down. You both need a time out, AGAIN!

According to Hanafi Madhab, skin of all animals gets pure with tanning except for pig, and human. So as long as the tanning was done, the shows would be fine.

Now, a civil way of discourse is to ask a question in a polite manner and wait for an answer. Once you have the answer, practice upon it. There is NO NEED to use the answer to incite a third party. That is contrary to sincerity. Similarly, if someone is getting on your nerves, practice restraints and let the thundering clouds pass.

LOL, I didn't know that you were the fashion police?

Actually, boots like these were made to be displayed as art.

And no one would wear boots like this pair; because they are hand made and very expensive.

Elephants are endangered.
That depends on which part of the world you are talking about.

Yes, certain African elephants are somewhat endangered.

But elephants are raised in other countries for their hides and meat.

Do you have more details about this? Seems like it would be a slow process, since elephants become sexually mature at around 13 years of age, have a 2-year pregnancy, and only give birth to one calf.

I doubt they let them reach maturity and slaughter them as calves.

You must remember that elephant hides are very expensive.

And a pair of elephant skin boots start at around $500 - $800 and custom hand made to order can easily be $1200 and up.
