Asalamualaikum brothers and sisters,
I woke up early on this summer day at a little after 6 AM because my mom had a flat tire that i needed to help her with. She was waiting at a gas station and when I got there I bought a juice and drank it not being fully aware that today is actually Thursday (I usually fast mondays and thursdays). My question is, at that point I had no intention of fasting really but it was because I was still groggy from my sleep and wasn't even aware that it was Thursday (no work and school for a month tends to lead to this), and as of right now I haven't eaten since so will my fasting today be counted or should I just eat? Thank you |

for shafi'e, there are 2 arkaan (pillars?) of fasting, ie
1- Niat (making intention) of sawm/fasting 2- Guard oneself from the things that invalidates the sawm/fasting. One the Niat, there's 2 situations: - for fardh fasting (ie Ramadhan) and other obligatory (wajib) fasting (eg nazar, kaffarah), the intention must be made on the night before the time of fajr. - for nafl fasting (voluntary), it is NOT conditioned that the niat/intention must be made on the night before fasting. It is permissible to make the intention during the day time PROVIDED that the sun has not passed noon AND HAVE NOT done things that invalidates the fasting such as eating/drinking etc. wallaahu a'lam. |
