What do the brothers and sisters think of doing a campaign similar to the one on islamicawakening forum whereby we write to prisoners/send them cards.

Its an idea, whether the effort can be sustained is up to the regular contributors to the forum, the forum attracts a lot of attention, sometimes to futile topics. We should make some concerted effort for the worry and concern of the forum to translate into something worthwhile for the ummah.

Please can the experienced members give some advice.

''One of the things that all prisoners look forward to are social visits from family/friends and letters. I am no different in this respect and Alhamdulillah very blessed to have regular phone calls and the occasional letters/emails from my family. I also have visits every 3-4 weeks. But there are many brothers who are not so fortunate. Some are revert brothers and their families rarely contact them. While some brothers on terrorism charges, whom the Muslims have completely forsaken, out of fear that the authorities may suspect them for associating with these brothers. Subhan Allah, this is a great tragedy! Simply writing a letter or email (emailaprisoner.com) or visiting your muslim brother will not incriminate you, especially if you never knew the brother before. Alhamdulillah I received two such letters from complete strangers, brothers whom I never knew or met before/ they read about my case on internet forum and decided to take the time to write to me. Wallahi, this is an example of true taste of Iman as mentioned in the hadeeth, those who love and hate each other for the sake of Allah (SWT) only. Not surprisingly both these brothers were reverts. How come the revert brothers outdo us born as Muslims in goodness, is a question we should ask ourselves.

Brothers, I urge you to write to atleast one Muslim prisoner, during this Ramadan, especially the brothers who have been detained without charge or any trial. Check cageprisoners or other sites to get their prison addresses. Imagine how you might benefit from the dua of the detained brothers as Rasool (SAWS) said there is no barrier between Allah (SWT) and the dua of the oppressed. Who is more oppressed than these unjustly and illegally detained brothers''.
