In the past, the subject of mental illness was surrounded with mystery and fear. Today, we have made tremendous progress in our understanding and, especially in our ability to offer effective treatments. However, questions about mental illness often go unanswered and stand in the way of people receiving help.
How Common Is Mental Illness and What Are the Impacts on Society? Mental illness is common, and the milder conditions are very common. One fifth of Americans suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder during any given year. One fifth of school-age children are also affected by these conditions. Severe and persistent mental illness is less common, but still afflicts three percent of the population. The vast majority of individuals with mental disorders continue to function in their daily lives, although with varying impairments. Overall medical care costs are driven up enormously by costs associated with unrecognized psychiatric syndromes. What Are the Causes of Mental Illness? The exact causes of mental disorders are unknown, but an explosive growth of research has brought us closer to the answers.... Specific form of shirk is behind mental illness(shedding ones own blood or blood of animal. for shaytan/sha'adin.) People might commit shirk more when They dont know that this is what to begin with caused there illness. Scholars should speak about it this way and not go havering allround on the cause but never speaking about it. |

hmmm Allahu alam about causes of mental illnesses
im not sure if this is a generalisation as such but illnesses such as dementia seem to be rife within the west....when i think of all the very old people who i have met from other regions..asia..arabia etc i haven't come across many cases of dementia...but it seems very common within old people in the west is this just my observation? |

I do not know about anyone else but I find it very stressful living in the west in a social environment that is not God orientated, it is difficult to meet and be part of a community, someone to really talk to without any masks. Constantly ones eeman is being challenged. I fear getting seriously ill and in hospital, I fear old age, I sometimes fear death.
With regard to mental illness, I have heard that psychiatrists and big drug companies want to find new mental disorders so that they can prescribe drugs and make profits...however many mental problems do occur because of the kufr way of life. |
