Default History Channel Lies?
Salam.

I was watching a documentary produced by the History Channel called "Banned from the Bible" and they mentioned the Quran 3 times in total, if i remember correctly. They were talking about the "banned" books from today's codex of the Bible.

4 "banned" books spoken about:

The life of Adam and Eve
The book of Enoch
Infancy of Gospel of Thomas
Gospel of Mary (Magedeline)

Now in these books they spoke about the "similarities" of some of the stories in these books with some verses in the Quran. What struck me was how in one of the the Gospels it speaks about "brothers and sisters" of Jesus Christ, which obviously made it seem like Mary, Mother of Jesus was not a virgin.

So someone wrote another book (which is one of the "banned books) which attempts to clarify this by stating that Joseph had "previous wives and these children were from previous marriages" and therefore Jesus was the only son of Mary (hence she was a virgin) and the "brothers and sisters" mentioned in the Gospels were half brothers and sisters (if they can even be called that, due to no biological link between "Joseph" and Jesus).

The documentary then comes out with something so incorrect, I am inclined to think it was just a blatant lie! It states that "however, these stories about "Joesph having previous marriages with other women, of which one was a queen ARE IN THE QURAN!" WHAT??!! I did a quick check to make sure my memory didn't betray me and there is no "Joesph" in the Quran whatsoever!

In fact the Quran seems to imply the complete rejection of this "Joesph" character.

In the Bible, the people do not accuse Mary of fornication, because she has a "husband" called "Joesph", so it is not shocking for anyone that they had a child. In fact "three wise men" come and give gifts for the birth! If it was out of wedlock they would surely be angry and would not being gifts!

In the Quran, however the verses are different there is no mention of someone called Yusuf or "Joesph" being married or even known to Mary, in fact the verses state:

At length she brought the [babe] to her people, carrying him [in her arms]. They said: “O Mary! truly an amazing thing hast thou brought! O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!” But she pointed to the babe. They said: “How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?” He said: “I am indeed a servant of God: He hath given me revelation and made me a prophet; And He hath made me blessed wheresoever I be, and hath enjoined on me prayer and charity as long as I live; [He] hath made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable; So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life [again]!” Such [was] Jesus the son of Mary: [it is] a statement of truth, about which they [vainly] dispute. (Maryam 19:27-34)

In the Quran it clearly shows that the people were shocked as why Mary had a child when she had no husband! Completely different to the story in the Bible. Soi do not understand why this documentary made a massive error.

Salam.

This is true. But the problem I had it was just so subtle, like it was fact. They even had a man called "Amir Hussein" sitting there in a library or something with a beard and long hair saying this outright! I was like what a deceptive tool, if you are going to make a historical documentary about Christianity which mentions the Quran at least check your facts. May Allah protect us.
