Assalam alikum wa rahmat Allah
bismila May Allah SWT shower the grave of blessed Imam with his infinite light. He(RA) disputes the argument of some people who use the following hadith and say that Ibadah (worship)is better than earning halal income. ما احئ الىّ ان اجمع المال و كن من التاجرين و لكن أوحئ الىِّ ان سَبح بحمدِ ربك و كن من السا جد ين واعبد ربك حتى ياءتيك اليقين Hadith; prophet (sas) said; “ I was not told to gather wealth nor be a merchant. I was told to do tasbih, and be of sajedeen (prostrated one) and worship Allah (SWT) all my life.” He (RA) mentions following conditions for not working. Imam (RA) notes that if a person has achieved high degree of spirituality and his ilm is useful to people then it is better that he does not work. But if the person's heart is not continuously with Allah (SWT) and he is busy with zahir (apparent or worldly concerns) then he is better to earn his livelihood. One need to know that Essence of worship is remembrance of Allah (swt) amidst work one can also remember Allah and train his heart to be with Allah (SWT). Imam(RA) indicate following cases as valid excuse for not working. Case #1 Imam (RA) say If any one has enough wealth for himself and his families needs then ibadah is better for him than work. If this kind of person despite his sufficient wealth spends most of his time in business that is due to his attachment to dunya which is the root cause of all sins. Case #2; The person does not have sufficient wealth but he gets help from (government ,oogaf etc) and odes not work. It is valid if; 1. He is mastering a science that will benefit people (such as learning shariah, or even medicine) 2. The person is busy fixing affairs of people (such as court, etc) 3. The person has a developed heart and experiences state of Mokashifah (eye of heart ,and access to unseen) 4. If the person is busy with prayer in khangah (under supervision) Example : there was a buzurg(learned man) who used to have 360 friend . He was always busy with worship. Every night of the year he used to be guest of one of his friends.his friends freed him from worrying about his food and he in turn brought lots of blessing for them. There was another buzurg who used to do the same with thirty friends. One friend for every night of the month. Imam(RA) mentions, this can only be done in a time that people do it without request for help and show sufficient raghbah (enthusiasim). Requesting help from people is of fawahesh(great sin) and it is halal only if it was absolute necessity. If people help while asking too many questions, degrading, or with lack of entusiasim then it is better for the person to work. |
