I am hearing brothers talk about how the muslims 500 years ago invented this or 1,000 years ago invented that.

You know, the Golden Age of Islam; blah, blah, blah,............yada, yada, yada........

Well that's all fine and dandy.

But I just want to yell at them and say, "What have we done lately"!!

We have done stuff lately, there are muslim papers in science journals/periodicals go have a look for yourself.

however yes we are behind the world when it comes to many of these things. we lack prestige, power etc. and this is mainly because we lack barakah, not because we lack potential great minds, or resources. just take a look at saudi they have everyhting in terms of wealth etc. but what they
(and the rest of us) lack is barakah in that wealth. barakah would allow us to invest our wealth in all the right places like masajid, charity, madrassas, schools, non-co-ed universities.

since our priorities are now messed up, i.e. pleasing allah is not our priority (if it was there would not be a single co-ed institution in the Islamic world), rather fulfilling our nafs and succumbing to the whispers of shaytan our now our goals, we have lost that izzat which allah had granted us.

when our hearts are again firm on the sunnah of rasulullah, worldy progress will come as well afluence (but we must not let that tempt our nafs).

I personally know someone who invented a couple of things- his idea was stolen and he was laid off from his job.

His second idea is still in progress if I am not wrong.

May be you should also see the photographs of those muslim inventors. Pure Islamic dress, long beard, turban etc., they were all practising muslims.

They were inventors and Islam didn't come in their way. Rather Islam was catalyst for their inventions.

Today Muslims who have capability to invent think Islam to be extra baggage, they think one cannot progress in duniya with Islam . They are missing the catalyst of Islam.

Islam makes a man perfect, perfect to execute any thing in duniya.

Let me quote an example.

One starts a salah, now he is bound to finish the salah he made intentions for. One starts fasting from dawn, he is bound to finish the fasting till sunset. He cannot run away in between due to any reason. This helps a person who starts a research with great enthusiasm and zeal, but he has to maintain that till the end results are achieved.

Secondly all inventors should have the quality of zuhd (contentment), their friends and relatives may be flying round the globe, big cars, villas, costly dresses, good respect in the society etc., which these guys can afford by jumping to commercial jobs. But Poor inventor has to be content with his hut. But he may get name and fame after the inventions, but not money. Normally scientist are paid with peanuts, it is their internal urge to get result keeps them moving. In Islam practising zuhd is simple.

So brother in a nutshell Islam did help in inventions and continues to help in inventions, but there are no takers.

no i wouldn't go that far. he can't be blamed for feeling frustrated. but as pointed out earlier, Allah will alow others to excel above us when we forget him.

Brother I honestly can't remember a time where I have had negative thoughts like reverts?
Are we not supposed to worry about our own actions?
And most of the time the people who do say these things are the ones who are doing nothing for this religion.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, but reverts attitude stinks!!
In another thread I remember him calling someone a village idiot..
Everyone has their own opinions, but to act this way is only making us look arrogant & pathetic when we should be making a good example to the non believers..
