Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,
I do not know if this is the right subforum to ask the question. An adopted person, does that change their names legally? Can call his adoptive parents "father" and "mother"? Do you have an obligation to always refer to them (at work, in your circle of friends, etc ...) as "adoptive parents"? ie If I should tell everyone who is adopted? Allah guide us and grant us the Fridaws. |

Salam `Aleykum,
Hmmm... the matter is that at the time of the Prophet (SAWS) the Arabs never had any "Family names", for example the US president George Washington, his family name is obviously Washington, but in ancient Arabia he would have been called with his father's name, so it becomes George bin Augustine, or George son of Augustine. When the Prophet (SAWS) adopted Zaid (ra), they used to call him Zaid bin Muhammad or Zaid son of Muhammad, BUT when that type of adoption was forbidden, they started calling Zaid with the name of his original parents Zaid ibn Harithah (ra). Same as when `Ali bin abi Talib (ra) adopted the son of Abu Bakr (ra) after the latter's death, that son was called Muhammad, and he wasn't referred to as Muhammad bin `Ali but as Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr (rah). I hope this helps :/ |

Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu, ![]() http://central-mosque.com/index.php/...g-a-child.html ... Legal adoption is not permissible. This means that one cannot change the lineage of an adopted child and substitute the names of his real parents with adoptive parents. The child should always be attributed to the real parents so that it becomes common knowledge amongst the people who the real parents are. ... ![]() |
