Assalamu `Alaykum.
I just have a few questions regarding salah. I'd prefer answers agreeing with the Maliki madhab, but I'll take any answers. #1: When praying Dhuhr or `Asr behind an Imam, and when the Imam recites silently, should I recite any Surah to myself or should I just not do/say anything until the Imam goes into ruku`? #2: Can we only mouth the Qur'an and the other words in salah and not say them out loud nor whisper them? Is this valid? Or is at least a very low whisper necessary? JazakAllah |

1.As far as I know if the recitation is silent, then muqtadi recites but when imam recites, muqtadi listens according to malaki school.
This is also adopted by some hanafis as well but in hanafi, muqtadi doesn't recite even in silent salat in general. 2.reading something in audible voice may disturb others. So perhaps reciting in a manner that doesn't disturb. I used to attend masjed where this man used to recite though quietly could be heard and found it annoying as it was quiet off putting and distracting. If you are in states, why not have a look at the zaituan websites for answers or visit Alimah Ayesha bewleys website for answers. Allahualam |

Assalamu `Alaykum. ![]() ![]() Person who recites Umm al-Qur'an in salat, Allah will divide the prayer into two halves between Him and His servant. Plz see reference below. Sahih Muslim Chapter 9 :THE RECITING OF AL-FATIHA IN EVERY RAK'AH OF PRAYER IS OBLIGATORY Book 4, Number 0775: Abu Huraira reported : The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: If anyone observes prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Qur'an, It is deficient [he said this three times] and not complete. It was said to Abu Huraira: At times we are behind the Imam.He said: Recite it inwardly, for he had heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) declare that Allah the Exalted had said : I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks. When the servant says: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me.And when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most High says: My servant has lauded Me.And when he (the servant) says: Master of the Day of judg- ment, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me. and sometimes He would say: My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me.And when he (the worshipper) says: Thee do we worship and of Thee do we ask help, He (Allah) says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for. Then, when he (the worshipper) says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to whom Thou hast been Gracious not of those who have incurred Thy displeasure, nor of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.Sufyan said: 'Ala b. 'Abd al-Rahman b. Ya'qub narrated it to me when I went to him and he was confined to his home on account of illness, and I asked him about it. ![]() |
