Default Becoming an Alim
Salamualaikom,

I have a desire to become an Alim. I have told my parents and they agree with me. Only problem is that I don't know how to start the process. Which schools are good to go too? And are there any duas that can help?

what age are you?

what country are you in?

are you a hafiz of quran? it might be worthwhile to memorize the quran beforehand, or at least a significant portion (a few juzz) .

Inshallah I too will be starting Islamic studies next year. May Allah acept both of us and allow us to be a means of dawa, reformation, enlightenment and guidance for others

dua: recite "rabi zidni alma" (my lord grant me knowledge)

search this forum

also make istikharah as well and make sure you are seeking ilm for the right reasons. because knowledge (even ilm of deen) that is sought for the fullfillment of the nafs and worldly gain, repute etc. is knowledge not worth having.

it might be a good idea to listen to Imam Ghazzali's advice to his students (seekers of Islamic knowledge).

this series is good, its an explanation of Ayyuhal Walad one of the Imam's books: http://www.islamicspirituality.org/l.../ayyuhal-walad

there's also the explanation of his book Al bidayatul hedaya (make sure to download and listen to it in order): http://www.zamzamacademy.com/view/au...g-of-guidance/

there are several threads dedicated to darul ulooms (islamic institutes of learning) on this forum and many darul ulooms have websites you can try googling them.

a couple of threads i found on this forum which may or may not be relevant to you:

also most darul ulooms follow the darse-nizame curriculum of study:

Please tell us a bit about yourself inshallah and maybe we can give an idea based on your situation.
