Default Baby Hatch: Put your babies inside...

A Non-Muslim friend of mine who is married to a German woman told me that in Germany its common to see Baby Hatch in Hospitals where women come and bandon their babies freely and legally...

This is the first time I have heard of this in my life, its pretty disgusting stuff to be honest....

I'd heard about the historical form of this, had no idea it was back in vogue.

I bet people can't just take them to bring them up as their own 'freely and legally' though. Nope, you gotta pay an arm and a leg and then through your nose.

That is pretty civilized compared to what was going on here in Germany. Every few months you would hear about mothers literally "slaughtering" (or at least killing/murdering) their babies, because of different fears. It's just like Rasulullah mentioned in one Hadith about the three worst sins and he mentioned them in the worst scenarios, that the mother will kill her child due to the fear of poverty. Just lately I've not heard about a recent incident. That as well could be just because I don't watch or read News much.

I'd prefer this than mothers neglecting or even killing their children because they didn't want them in the first place. But it is very sad when this kind of 'service' is necessary.

I do wish they'd make it AS easy to be able to adopt one of these babies as it is to abandon them!

speaking of adoption alhumdolillah we have this here in our area near the masjid - http://www.fostercarelink.com. It has a couple Bury ulama amongst the staff also and i think are in the process of opening up branches in Manchester and B'ham. When i hear some of the stories from staff (though childs names etc are not mentioned) mashallah the impact on childrens lives is amazing.

Yeah it's a real shame. We have something similar in the states, it's called the "Safe Haven" law which allows parents to simply abandon a newborn at designated locations. You'll often see signs near hospitals.

its even 1000 time better than the case which happend in Bangladesh last year, where a 3-4 days old baby was thrown in dustbin, and a lot of crows gather there, and eat his eyes and made him injured, someone looked at that, and saved the kid. His life was in dangour. everybody was shocked after reading this newspaper, my mother nearly cried for the baby. then a couple adopt him.

And death body of babies are often found, who knows was the baby born death, or someone killed them......

quick and easy adoptions would work in an ideal world where every human is a loving, well adjusted person willing to take the child and look after it as their own.

but the world is not like that. there are all sorts of weirdos out there. child abusers, druggies, drunks, thieves etc etc etc. imagine if the child was to end up with one of those???

Sure you're right, but it makes it terribly hard for sincere people who want to adopt. Example, here in South Africa my husband and I would not be able to adopt because we're foreigners. While in other countries you need truckloads of money and living up to a standard. So if I want to live simple with bare necessities, I doubt I'd be able to pass an inspection by the social worker.

S/w, most of those babies are born as a result of adultery (zina)...but the west has a name for such babies too, it's called 'love child' !! only to be abandoned as soon as they are born...thats 'love' in the 21st century...but i really feel so sorry for the children

Yeah... poor child. Born and labeled for something he/she had absolutely no control over. That's one of the reasons my heart goes out to these poor babies

And this is what's called civilized society. The rate at which everythings being dehumanised is depressing to say the least.

Sounds like posting letters. You can imagine the conversation: " You're going to the hospital? While you're there could you post mines's as well ..."

Or the wait lists for public adoptions are really, really loooong (I read somewhere that it is around 8 years in Canada).

Yes, this is unfortunate. In Canada families receive a benefit (money) monthly for each child under the age of 18. I think the amount is different across provinces and it differs depending on the family income. Also, people who foster children in their homes receive some money to help with the cost in caring for children under their care. Unfortunately... some people misuse this and you hear of horrendous treatment of children. That said, these incidents are exceptions and not the norm.

I think it is absolutely important for leaders/governments to take adoptions/guardianships/fostering seriously in order to protect children. That said, there really has to be more flexibility on some issues like what sister Sudoku mentioned - living a simple life does not equal inability to care for a child.
