My all time favourites:
1. From my sister's lips by naima b. Robert.
Excellent book. Throughly recommended. It gives a good insight about converts, their trials, struggles and how they overcome them.

asSalaamu Alaikum,

Islam and the World - Shaykh `Allamah Abul Hasan Ali an-Nadwi (ra)
---> Masha'allah Shaykh has so magnificently articulated in this work!
Found this book again after I lost it many years ago.

Brilliant book.

As Salik have you read 'Islam and western civilisation' by the same author. Its written in the same vain and style and I think they go together nicely.

If people can track these two books down, they should and read them. Talks alot of history, and how various forces have applied their resources to take people away from Islam. Talks about various countries. I think its a special read for Muslims living in the west.

Anyway, a personal fave of mine is Al I'tidal(Islamic politics) by Shaykh Zakariyah Khandelwi.

A book which is so amazing, that everytime I read it,a different understanding is gained through it. Written many years ago but the lessons are applicable even today.

Assalamu Alaikum,

I love the book "Inner Dimensions of Islamic Worship." It's selections from Imam al Ghazali's Ihya al Ulum al Deen pertaining to the salat, zakat, fasting and hajj. Every time I read it, I find something new that helps me to deepen my understanding of these acts of worship.

Hmmm, I think I saw that book somewhere, and thought they both must be the same books translated and published by different companies and hence the different names (b/c even the title "Islam and the World" is not the actual translation of the original work, as far as I am aware).

Jazakallahu Khairan for making me aware of it. Do you happen to know where I can get Islam and Western Civilization ? And would you happen to know what differs between the two works, b/c by the titles it seems they must be quite similar (but if Allamah Nadwi ra wrote both separately, of course they're different).....

If you can hook it up with a link, if possible, that'll be great.

I've also wanted to get Allamah Nadwi (ra)'s Faith and Materialism. It was uploaded online on google-books, so I read parts of it on there. I think these books are very much essential for Muslims living in the West especially.

is it is possible to find online 'Islam and the World'?

thanks in advance
Yahya bhai, I bought mine from a local bookstore b/c it was not available on al-Rashad.com (unfortunately al-Rashad has very few of Allamah Nadwi's books).

But you can order it from here if in UK: http://kitaabun.com/shopping3/produc...oducts_id=1187

and from here if in the US: http://islamicbookstore.com/b8776.html

Print quality of this copy is excellent, hence the raised price.

I don't know where you can find that book online. I take it you don't live in the UK? If you do,I dont mind posting it to you.

Both books are similar yet different. They complement each other really really well.

You're right about the authors books. They are a must read for our young practising western generation Muslims. It covers so many topics and subjects. The books were written so many years ago but still fit perfectly in toadys modern world, which shows the insight and foresight of the author.

I also recommend Al I'tidal by Hadhrat Shaykh Zakariyah.

...these are history books detailing the battles and conquests....I dont think there should be a problem or the ulema may have warned about it....are there any controversies within the Ummah when it comes to battles fought after Huzoor ?
