This one is about Signs of Allah in the animal world - not about big brothers or sisters.

Just look how the cuckoos fare in the their wonderful journey.

Here are the various milestones of above programme.

GPD tagging of Cuckoos
(1) Like some other species Cuckoos numbers decrease in UK alarmingly - by seventy percent.
What is happening? (This is just like India where the vultures have virtually disappeared and house sparrow dwindled to nearly the same level.)
(2) RSPB tags five Cuckoos with GPS chip. Chip weight = 5gm. Cuckoo weight : More than 115gm. Chip cost £2000.
(3) Cuckoos are pesky parasites - they lay eggs in the nests of dunnocks, reed warblers and meadow pipits.
(4) They use their hawk like features to intimidate the target birds to lay eggs. In a season one of them lay upto 20 eggs.
(5) The device fitted with them is on for ten hours per two days and communicates with a satellite. Ornithologists can track the cuckoos from the leisure of their offices.
(6) How did they catch the specimen? Use a stuffed dummy combined with mating voice recording of a female - inside a net. No wonder all five caught were males. No gender justice here.
(7) The tracking of the birds might help the danger zone for them.
(8) Guess work? May be they die while trying to cross Sahara in Africa.

This type of realizations are a mercy and blessing from our Lord Most High and we should be thankful to Him for them.
This belongs to chapter of guidance - a blessing that has been kept by Allah (SWT) with Him.

Cuckoos are a creation of Allah (SWT). The way creation is ordered today, a cuckoo cannot wake up a hummingbird. A cuckoo is a cuckoo and a cuckoo will do what a cuckoo does. If the cuckoo is not thriving in an area where they used to, and if that cuckoo happens to depend on the presence of certain foods or even other nest birds etc. then one has to wonder what is happening to them too?

The whole order is changing.

One message I take from this sign, as with any migratory animal is just that: migration. Leaving what is familiar, not being too attached to things and place, being able to move when needed (not just physically across space, but also movement of the heart), moving as a group (ummah), following Allah's (SWT) order...

The other message I take from this is that our actions cause reactions here (dunya) where we end up depriving ourselves of those beautiful plants and animals Allah (SWT) gave to us as signs, in exchange for things here: packaged goods, cars, tires, computers, etc. etc. etc. stuff... we're depriving ourselves of His signs... just imagine what we're depriving ourselves of in the hereafter.

A cuckoo may not be able to wake up a nuthatch the next morning but... we can be a sinner one day, wake up with imaan the next morning, make tawbaa and repent, have faith, believe... change our ways and pay attention to what signs are left: including the rights of others.

All the things you mention "packaged goods, cars, tires, computers, etc. etc. etc. stuff." is the stuff of consumerism, Corporations need to make profits, they seduced us to buy the things they offer, they are protected by governments who also deal in Riba which is corrupting the land and sea and human beings are becoming degraded looking to animals for our character models.
