Default HELP I don't know if I am True Muslim
HELP

I don't know if I am true muslim

1. I am not Shi'a
2. I am Sunni (not Wahabi or Salafi)
3. I have never committed any major sins like eating pork, drinking alcohol or smoking

I believe in Allah and love his messenger. I have read the entire Quran in Arabic but haven't memorized it. I also try my best to pray 5 times a day, pay the zakat, I have gone on Umrah and will go to Hajj soon Insh'allah. I have good intentions.

I am still very young (

then ur fine, arent u? thats what we all do, believe in Allah and the finality of prophet Mohammad sal Allahu alayhi wassalam's prophethood, love him, pray five times, pay zakaat, haj and umrah. You're good, better to stay away from salafi vs sunnis vs barelwis etc. I just stick to what the classical scholars, the imams have said, I follow a madhhab and try to stay away from sectarian issues, i find these arguements very draining in terms of eeman and spirituality.

okay but I have gone to the Mawlid Un Nabi conferences and gatherings and some people claiming it's Haram?

I don't do anything bad there?

It's just conferences where we learn about the Prophet, and some people recite poetry (No music or singing or dancing), some people do Quran recitation, a few speeches, read our prayers (if it's time to) and than we have dinner. (Usually only Men are invited but Women sometimes come too - and no there is not any free-mixing, the women have their own area)

So which way is correct? People who do this or don't?

Because whoever go to this gathering is labelled "Sunni" and those who object it/don't go are labelled as "Salafi or Wahabi"

I don't understand the differences.

actually this is under debate, most sunnis are of the opinion eid maulad is biddah and we refrain from these activities because we see no proof in the shariah or sunnah, its better to stay away from doubtful matters. Wallahu alam

Some sunni people I watched on YouTube and read online provide evidence that it's permissible.

Whereas other people provide evidence it's not permissible.

I don't understand who's right or wrong.

yeah thats why i said stay away from these discussions until you have grasped enough knowledge to delve into these matters, take the middle course if you're confused, I find the deobandi stance on most issues very balanced compared to barewli and salafi opinions, in the mean time you should start studying Islam from scratch like I did, began with my salah, was amazed at how many mistakes I made, then moved onto my tajweed.

Find an Ulamaa who possess these qualities and then stick to them.

P.S. In general, you shouldn't take your Deen from sources like youtube.

There are various groups claiming "sunni-at"

e.g. both deobandi and barelwi claim they they are sunni while the other is not and both refer to themselves as sunni rather than deobandi/barelwi. (thus this "Sunni" forum).

This user "Islam" is problematic. He initially started posting saying the same thing as he is saying right now (eg. he is 17 years old youngster and loves the Prophet etc). But after some posts he seemed to be matured enough and started to spread the Barelwi propaganda. After some days I found him in many discussions where he expressed his opinions like a knowledgeable and matured guy.

How many persons are using this username?

Baseless allegation. Deobandis never claim themselves as "the only Sunni". Who is not a Shi'ite, he is Sunni- it's the general meaning. Deviant Barelwis call themselves as "only Sunni" (Deobandis and Salafis are out of fold of Islam- according to them).

This forum's name is not also based on your silly claim.

No, Barelvis are mubtadi's.

What is meant by brother Zahed is that there are Sunnis who are not Deobandis, such as many Arab and African Sunnis. That is why Deobandis, even though they do not agree on some issues with these other Sunnis, such as the mawlid, still sit with them and consider them part of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah. If the Barelvis are to be believed, all Deobandis and Salafis are kuffaar and those that think that either of these groups are Muslims are also kuffaar. Of course there are Barelvis who do not believe in such rampant takfeer but that is what has been said by their founder and their akabireen.
