Get to Know your Soul (ruh) (Discussion #1)

Imam Gazali (RA) explains that one should try to know his soul (ruh). He (RA)mentions that “ Our ruh are similar to Angels (has angelic make), It is the most precious part of us . It is from Allah SWT . It has come from Allah and will go back to Allah SWT. Our soul is a stranger in earth. It has come here for a business. It has come here to be saved. Get to know your soul.

Imam RA farther explains that,Every human being has been made of an outer and inner reality. Ones outer reality is ones body which can be can be seen But the inner reality can not be seen and has the following characteristics.

1. Our inner reality is called Nafs, Ruh, Jan or soul
2. The reality of every person is ones Soul (ruh) or nafs
3. Our ruh is not from this world and it is a stranger in this world
4. Our physical,body has been given as a tool to our ruh. It is given to our soul as servant. In fact every limb of our body is part of the army of our soul and in its serviceوَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ*ۚ (31/74)
5. The characteristic of our ruh (soul) is for the Marifah of Allah SWt and to know and see wajh of Allah( SWT)
6. Our soul is not from created world (alame khalg). It is from unseen, angelic world (alame amr). It has been created by Allah (it is not Gadim) and it ‘s make is ambigious in quran and sunnah.
7. Even though in the beginning of religious life one does not need to know about soul(ruh), But later on it is necessary that one strives to strengthen his ruh. وَٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُواْ فِينَا لَنَہۡدِيَنَّہُمۡ سُبُلَنَا*ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَAnd those who strive in Our (Cause) We will certainly guide them to Our Paths: for verily Allah is with those who do right. (29/69)
