Salaamun alaikum,
In the Saheeh International version of the translation this is what is written: Sahih International So when he had furnished them with their supplies, he put the [gold measuring] bowl into the bag of his brother. Then an announcer called out, "O caravan, indeed you are thieves." This is completely different to what I have normally heard. I have heard that it was the drinking cup but here it is the measuring cup. Which translation is correct? This is an important question because some people have questioned why the Nabi would deceive them by placing a drinking cup. However if it was the measuring cup then it means that he (as) may have placed it by mistake rather than on purpose.. |

Brother I am not all trying to disrespect the great Nabi (as). I was only suggesting that it may have been a mistake, to remove him from the charge of doing something immoral. You have given a very good answer especially with the comparison to Hardhat Khider. May Allah reward you.
Shaykh Muhammad Asad also has an interesting opinion on this. |
