Default Please Help Me Name My Goat
Salaam alaikum,

I just bought a little female goat for milk and as a sunnah. Can you help me also fulfill the sunnah of naming things by suggesting names for her?

Jazakumullah khair!

Wa alaikum as-Salaam,

Masha'Allah, I did not see that thread, but thank you for reminding me, these names are listed in another book too in English, Shamaail al-Kubra.

I like the name Zamzam, I think I will name her that, but I like Baraka too. I am going to get another goat pretty soon insha'Allah, so I will use Baraka for the next one.

Does anyone know if Zamzam can be used for a female?

Also the names Itlaal and Itraaf seem to be names for males, if this is so, can I use these for the males I will get? Jazakillah khair sister, very excellent post, you get the reward.

Perhaps you can change the reorder the letters of Baraka to get Bakara , which translates to goat I think. lolz.

Jokes apart. I think ZamZam is a good name. Suqya is a nice name in that list too.

I am going to use Zam Zam for her name, and hopefully I will have a big enough herd in the future to use all the mubarak names that Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salim used for his goats.

I wish I get these characteristics as said by our beloved Prophet concerning the owners of sheep/goat. Let Allah SWT bless the OP and his goats. Ameen
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Pride and arrogance are characteristics of the owners of horses and camels, and those bedouins who are busy with their camels and pay no attention to Religion; while modesty and gentleness are the characteristics of the owners of sheep." (Sahih BUkhari, Book #54, Hadith #520)

Ameen, thank you very much for the dua.

The first day I got the little goat, I did a really silly thing; I let it down with out any leash or in a fence. I figure it was not a big deal since it was only 8 weeks old; BOY WAS I WRONG! My neighbors dog, which is a nice dog, ca,e over to smell the goat, as it had never seen a goat before. Fine. well the little goat did not like this so started to slowly walk away. The dog followed. The goat started to walk a little faster, and the so did the dog, and within a 5 seconds the little goat was running high speed. The dog stopped, but the goat kept running, all the way to the road, with me running behind. It did not stop when it reached the road, it kept going and I kept running. Anyway, after running up and down the road, with traffic stopped both ways, at least 40 cars/trucks lined up, all my neighbors out, young, old, even an old crippled man were out to see the drama and see if they could help. In the end, I managed to get hold of the little goat, pretty much because it was tired, I apologized to everyone I could and thanked them for helping, and went back home. I should have been mad maybe, but really I was happy for this, I was almost giddy! I thought, ALHAMDULILLAH! I haven't had this goat for more than 20 mins and it is already doing my tarbiya, and has allowed me to follow the sunnah of Nabi Musa alaihi salaam. I thanked the little goat, kissed her, put her in her crate, and laid down in the yard and had a good little qailula.

Allamah Alusi, in Tafseer Ruhul Ma’aani, as well as other commentators of Qur’an write that when a sheep ran away from its flock, Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam) ran behind it. Every Nabi was made to herd sheep so that the ability of patience could be created in the heart, since herding sheep is a difficult task. They run away very quickly making the shepherd helpless. Allah Ta'ala trains the Ambiya (Alaihimus Salaam) by means of sheep first so that they can serve their Ummat (nation). Thereafter, when the sheep escaped, Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam) ran behind it, until eventually his feet became blistered, thorns pricked him and blood began flowing. The blood of the forthcoming Nabi is flowing. After chasing it for miles, he caught it.

When Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam) got hold of this sheep he neither hit nor scolded it. In fact, he began crying and began removing the thorns which had penetrated it with his own hands. The hand of Nabuwwat is removing thorns from a sheep. Before removing the thorns from his own foot, he first removed the thorns from the sheep, and due to compassion, he continued crying, saying, “O sheep, if you did not have mercy on Musa, then at least you could have had mercy on yourself. What did you achieve by running so much? Finally, you were caught. You are full of thorns pricking you, and blood is flowing from you as well as me. If you did not have mercy for my blood then at least you should have showed mercy to yourself.” When the angels saw this quality of love and compassion in Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam), then the divine creation requested Allah Ta’ala, “O Allah! This person seems to be worthy of becoming a Nabi.”
