Hello guys!
I follow the Deobandiya school of law I have read the Sunnah method of Ghusl at many websites but I cannot find one complete one. I know that gargling is important in Ghusl but in most places, there is no mention of gargling in the Sunnah method of Wudhu. When do we perform gargling in the traditional method of Wudhu? Does it replace rinsing the mouth? How do we perform it? P.S. If a person is not aware of the Islamic method of Ghusl and he does not perform it that way, would his prayers be accepted during that period? I mean if he does not even know that there is an Islamic method prescribed for Ghusl. Thanks |

Hello guys! ![]() In the Hanafi Madhhab, rinsing the mouth and the nose are two of the three fara'id (obligatory elements) of ghusl, the third being having water passed on the whole body. Without any of these three elements, a ghusl won't be valid. While during wudu', rinsing the mouth is a sunnah element, not a fard or wajib one. |

![]() I have been told that gargling during ghusl should be done in such a way that water reaches the back of the neck to the point that you want to vomit. Is this true? |

That's how I understand it. But I am still not sure. P.S. My original question was when do we have to perform gargling during Ghusl? (its farz I know that). |

Assalamu alaikum,
Regarding gargling (back of the mouth) and rinsing (just the immediate inside of the mouth) both opinions are found - a mufti told me. I do both to be safe. Those who say it must reach back of the mouth also say that while fasting one should rinse and not take it to the back of the mouth. This can be done anytime before performing ibadah which requires the ghusl. So if one did ghusl and completely dried the body and after one hour remembered he did not gargle/rinse he can still do so. If however he did a prayer before gargling that must be repeated. However it is sunnah to perform wudu before ghusl and generally it can be done in the wudu, so doing it before is better as afterwards one might also forget. |

walaikum assalam hope1 wa jazakallah khairan
![]() I am going to perform gargling immediately after rinsing the mouth in Wudu. Is that correct? P.S. Please also clear my second query. If a person (specially an adolescent) is not aware that Islam has a specific method prescribed for Ghusl and he does not perform it that way, would his prayers be accepted during the period he is unaware of the Islamic method of Ghusl? |

There is a big difference between rinsing and gargling. There is difference of opinion whether gargling is even a sunnah. If you look up to shuruh of hidaya it says one is supposed to do "mubalagha" in rinsing (madmada) the mouth. But there is difference of opinion of what madmada exactly entails. Some say that you rinse the water from one side to one side. This was the opinion of Hulwani. While others state you should "gargle."
Sometimes you see brothers in the bathroom making so much noise while doing gargling. I am not sure whether this is stated by any of the ulama. |
