al-Salamu `Aleykum,
Yes I know the title of the thread isn't very appropriate but insha-Allah once you read the content you'll see that it is proper. You all know that some of our scholars when asked about certain matters related to the Shia they often mention something regarding a Shia belief about Jibreel (as) making a mistake, they would say that the Shia are deviant because of such and such and such... and among these matters they would mention that the Shia are misguided because they believe that when Allah (swt) sent his angel Jibreel (as) with the Prophet-hood, the angel made a mistake and made Muhammad (SAWS) a prophet instead of `Ali (ra). Then you go to a Shia and you ask him and he refutes it easily and says that the scholars are lying... and we all know that most of our scholars don't know much about the Shia beliefs because they don't concern themselves with such matters thinking that they are a waste of time, so where did they get this from? Well when our scholars want to make Fatwas they usually revise the old Fatwas by the classical scholars, and by classical scholars I mean scholars who lived 500 or 800 years ago or even more... and this is actually written in the books of the classical scholars and our scholars just insert it into their Fatwas thinking that the Shia of today actually hold these beliefs. (I do not know if there still exists Shia in our days that hold on to such beliefs, Allah knows best.) Also as you know the Shia are composed of many sub-sects and sub-sub-sects, such as The Ithna `Ashariyyah whom we call the Twelvers, and the Ismali`iliyyah whom we call Ismaili Shia, and the Zaydiyyah whom we call Zaidi Shia, and many many others like the Kaysaniyah and Waqifiyyah and Jaroudiyyah and Fathiyyah ect... maybe reaching around 200 sub-sects, each has different beliefs, many of these Shia sects are extinct and no longer exist. And based on this, I would like to bring to your attention, that the scholars never made this up, this belief of the angel making a mistake was that of an old Rafidhi Shia sect called "al-Ghuraabiyyah". The following texts from the books of the classical Sunni scholars who were experts on Islamic sects will clarify: ![]() ![]() [“Al-Ghuraabiyyah: They claim that Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) sent Jibra’eel (عليه السلام) to `Alee (عليه السلام), (but) he (Jibra’eel) made a mistake and went to Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), because they looked alike. They said: He resembled him like a crow (ghuraab) with (another) crow, and a fly with (another) fly. They claim that `Alee (عليه السلام) was a Rasool (Messenger) and his children after him are Rasools (Messengers). This sect (firqah) greets (one another) by saying: ‘May Allaah curse the feathered one’, meaning Jibra’eel (عليه السلام). The Kufr (disbelief) of this sect is more than the kufr of the Jews, those who said to the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم): ‘Who brought you the waHee (revelation) from Allaah, the Most Higher?’ So he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘Jibra’eel.’ And they said: ‘We do not like Jibraa’eel because he brings chastisement.’ And they said: ‘If Mikaa’eel had brought waHee to you, and he never brings anything except for raHmah (mercy), we would have believed in you. Now the jews with their kufr (disbelief) in the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and their hostility to Jibraa’eel (عليه السلام), do not curse Jibraa’eel, and verily they claim that he (Jibraa’eel) is from the angels of chastisement and not from the raHmah (mercy). And the Al-Ghuraabiyyah from the raafiDahs curse Jibraa’eel (عليه السلام) and Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). And Allaah, The Most High has said: “Whoever is the enemy of Allaah, and His angels and His apostles and Jibraa’eel and Mikaa’eel, surely Allaah is the enemy of the kafireen (unbelievers” (2:92). In this (we find) a confirmation of their kufr for anyone who hates the angels. It is not permissible to include them amongst the groups of the Muslims whom Allaah (has said) they are kaafirs.”] Source: 1.
