has any one else tried this software?

I have been using it for past two weeks and its been great. first I noticed that my internet had slowed down after installing but in few hours it was back to normal speed. there are wide range of categories that you can block from such as pornography to open image search and from Social Networking to News / Media. You can also set time restrictions to block Web access for certain time during the day e.g. after 10pm to 7am, prayer times, homework time e.t.c.

This software only asks for your name and email address. once you have downloaded it will ask you to set an admin password. The another good point about this is that it's not a trial software or demo.



Has anyone else got any other free web filter software.

Maybe you could avoid using phrases like 'sexual material' and just say 'imooral material' instead; people would get the picture. It'd be best that way because Imams might have a heart attack if they see any language more explicit than that

I tried opendns but it didn't work. Maybe there was a compatibility problem. Ideally it would be good to have something that goes on the router like opendns, because nowadays kids and adults have wireless laptops, and that way everyone is covered. However, if that tool is not easy to install then people are even less likely to use it. Maybe I'll have another go with opendns.com

I'm not sure when and how you implemented OpenDNS but it's really simple, just changing the DNS on your router to OpenDNS's address, save, reboot and your ready to go. You can also customize the categories you wish to keep and block.

I've had OpenDNS on my computer for some time.

It is pretty good, though the blocker does not seem as comprehensive as this K9 one, it gets better every day.

My problem with it, however, is that I haven't been able to get it to work for months, and I have no idea what the problem is.

Using some tricks such as proxies , ssh tunnel etc , one porn-addict can bypass such security wall of these anti-porn filters. So , the parents should focus more on how to instill hatred towards all forms of depravity into the young hearts.

You only need to create account and change the dns to the one shown on their website.

it will take around 3 minutes to implement

You can also manually block or unblock websites in opendns.com
