I remember hearing in one of Shaykh Hasan Ali's lectures that the Jewess was afterwards killed because she attempted to kill the Prophet(pbuh).
But in the book Muhammad:His Life Based on the Earliest Sources by Martin Lings, it states that the Prophet forgave the Jewess, she was not killed. So now I'm confused, was she killed or not? Daleel? |

Saheeh Bukhari Volume 003, Book 047, Hadith Number 786. Narated By Anas bin Malik : A Jewess brought a poisoned (cooked) sheep for the Prophet who ate from it. She was brought to the Prophet and he was asked, "Shall we kill her?" He said, "No." I continued to see the effect of the poison on the palate of the mouth of Allah's Apostle. Now I didnt know the jewess was killed later. I am waiting for the reply too. |

Shaykh Hasan Ali probably made a mistake when he said the Jewess was killed. |

Hadrat Bishr ibn Bara' had shared the poisoned meat with the Prophet and he died later. The Prophet forgave the jewess with respect to himself but when Bishr passed away Huzur ordered her to be handed over to the relatives of the former who put her to death. It is in Tabaqat ibn Sa'd and Sunan Abu Da'ud.

Narrated Abu Salamah: Muhammad ibn `Amr said on the authority of Abu Salamah, and he did not mention the name of Abu Hurayrah: The Apostle of Allah used to accept presents but not alms (sadaqah). This version adds: So a Jewess presented him at Khaybar with a roasted sheep which she had poisoned. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) ate of it and the people also ate. He then said: Take away your hands (from the food), for it has informed me that it is poisoned. Bishr ibn al-Bara' ibn Ma'rur al-Ansari died. So he (the Prophet) sent for the Jewess (and said to her): What motivated you to do the work you have done? She said: If you were a prophet, it would not harm you; but if you were a king, I should rid the people of you. The Apostle of Allah then ordered regarding her and she was killed. He then said about the pain of which he died: I continued to feel pain from the morsel which I had eaten at Khaybar. This is the time when it has cut off my aorta.
Abu Dawud, 39:4498. Comment: Good riddance to bad rubbish. |

Acacia, your booklet said the Prophet(pbuh) pardoned her, but this hadith says otherwise. Still confused. |

No, if you read the full section you'll see that the Prophet did indeed order her to be killed but not at the time the poison was discovered, not even when others died of it... not until Bishr died of the poison - that's when the order was given.
The hadeeth brother Abu Tamim posted doesn't say anything different, it just cuts to the final order. Can you tell me which page/chapter in the Ling book to refer to? I know its there, I've read it in the past but can't seem to find it at this moment. |

Lings writes that Bishr indeed died, and the Prophet pardoned her. There's nothing in the book about her being killed. How much later did the Prophet give the order for her to be killed, and why did he forgive her and then later decided to have her killed? Didn't Bishr die right after swallowing the meat, since it was heavily poisoned? |

Ok, I get it now. So the relatives of Bishr had her killed.
Slightly off topic, has anyone hear read the seerah Ar-Raheeq al-Makhtum (in English)? If you have, can you please tell me how it was, did you like it, was it accurate etc... Also, how is it compared to Martin Lings seerah, better or worse? |
