Well the answer to this question is not rocket science - to achieve fear of Allah swt one has to adopt the company of those who have fear of Allah swt - kunu ma'as sadiqeen - clearly and in plain language answers the question.
A lot of people though do not know what "fear Allah" means - is fearing Allah swt the same type of fear you would get if suddenly a big dangerous snake jumped in front of you? Fear Allah swt meaning do not break the commandments of Allah swt, uphold them and carry them out. |

I remember the famous quote by hazat umar ra where he said that if there is only one guy on the day of judgement who will be granted jannah and the rest all go in hell then I have hope that it would be me and at the same time if there is only one guy who will be thrown in hell and the rest all are granted jannah, then I have fear that it would be me. If only someone asked him what made him feel that way… They probably already knew. |

My problem is I feel like Allah SWT will forgive me when i break His SWT laws. But that can't be right since the sahabah, who have more right to forgiveness, feared Allah SWT so much. |

Its a natural and automatic outcome of faith (Iman)...as in the essence of a hadith shareef, Iman is in between fear and hope....the stronger the iman, the more the hope, and simultaneously, the more the fear. |

I have heard elders say that having this feeling, that Allah swt will forgive, while or before committing a sin is bad and a deceit of nafs - we should not heed this feeling and remind ourselves that Allah swt has punishment in place as well, the least of which wont be tolerable for us. However, this feeling should be there after one has broken His law giving in to evil desires of satan and nafs...it will lead him to tauba and get up to walk again towards Allah swt. It's scary to think that Allah SWT could be angry with us when we believe otherwise. |

My feeling is that we have discussed enough on this for the time being and we should allow ourselves some time to absorb the material and points. Ecology of the brain is wonderful but it moves at slow pace. A break of few days will be good for us all. ********** That quote by Hazrat Ali (RA) is wonderful. Bertrand Russel said that he was not ready to die for any cause for he might turn out to be wrong. So much for his belief in atheism. |

I was only repeating what a local Shaykh said in a speech, I did not do the actual speech any justice. The analogy refers to our individual appointed time of death, when Allah swt is calling us back to Him, some of us will dread it (May Allah save us from this), and some of us will yearn for it (May Allah makes us from amongst these). If we keep this end in mind, we can insha Allah work towards a good end while we still breath and enjoy the countless Blessings of Allah swt.
I think the best of students do indeed fear being called to the principle's office. Whereas the worst, don't really care. And the ones in-betwee... they get anxious, not really sure what's going on but not completely afraid. |

The feeling you had described could be a manifestation of of hope from Allah (SWT) but it could easily be the case where we are taking Him for granted. This later eventuality is quite deceptive - as our life experience shows us. But inculcation of fear of Allah (SWT), as you are doing, should help precisely in this case. brother Maripat. Wonderful suggestion, I think there’s more than enough on my plate to start applying. May Allah SWT help us all be sincere. Ameen (kindly say it too if you didn’t already ) At first, I didn’ tget your last paragraph, but then I saw the other thread . May Allah SWT increase you in hikmah and all good things. Ameen. |
