i want to maybe study civil engineering at after graduating high school , but i am MUCH more interested in studying deen at an islamic university first. Studying Islam will open up my mind to learn more as well and it is best for my akhira. I live in Canada so i'd have to go abroad though. What are your thoughts/advice?

But what do you do when your parents still want you to get a degree and won't let you study islam full time.

Can you learn more than once a week [try doing it in the Masjid with the teacher or at your house or his etc,.]

If you can do the dunya studies, then part time deen studies are good too. And when you finish your degree you can do the alim course.
Unfortunately most masjids are controlled by salafis so i dont want to learn from them. Its very hard to find people with real knowledge here

But the thing is death is still a reality, after all what if you spend 4 years studying accountacy only to find that Allah had decreed that you do die a year after, then your dunya degree would be an absolute waste of time. Inshallah I will do a thread with more information about my current situation so I can get advice because with all respects to what you said I am sort of considering doing the degree and studying islam at the same time. Becuase I sort of agree with you it is a big move to go to a different contry and study islam and it is not necessarly good idea if you've got parents at home who may need you. So in a way I agree with you and Abdullah but still in my heart I have huge zeal and desire to study islam fully and intensively.
oh, i thought you meant dying while learning islam.

I suggest you exhaust the possibilities in your own area first. Most people can learn tajweed, arabic reading, maybe grammar and some fiqh in their own area. There's no point going to pakistani or egypt just to learn 'alif ba ta'.
haha, very true. alhamdulillah i know these things pretty well.

we have to study Deen first and basically what we have to do is first we become expert in Deen matters - understand Quran with tafseer - learn basics of Haram and Halal and afterward live our life in accordance with Deen

but we have to go along with Dunya as well - this doesnt mean we get addicted to worldly pleasures , no , all our life , in each and every second we have to thank and worship ALLAH , but going along with Dunya is very Important also - we Muslims would have been the most successful and advanced people by now if we would have lived our life in accordance with Quran unfortunately we were divided , and that divide and rule policy was introduced by enemies of Islam - so today you will see muslims fight amongst each other by such small issues like , Mawlid is permissible or not , Allah is on sky only or he is everywhere ? ( Salafi - Sunni ) , etc etc - and the most worst of all is that we are taking being divided as normally each group claiming only they are going to Paradise others are deviants , - differences among us are not even big they are small , but still we like ourselves to be divided , thats why we are a little bit backwords in recent times ,
i think the differences in aqeeda are actually major, not minor
