Default Tafsir Ibn Kathir 4 Volume Version by Dar al Manarah (Muhammad Anis Gad Khalil)
Having heard about Darussalam's "salafi-influences", I've found this other version of Tafsir Ibn Kathir; one by Dar al Manarah. It is a 4-volume set rather than the 10-volume set Darussalam has.

Does anyone have this, or has anyone found anything about this version of Tafsir Ibn Kathir? This one is abridged as well (and may as well have to be seeing as how it's 4 volumes instead). I'm searching up on it now but I'm wondering if anyone in the SF community knows anything about it?

Unsure if my low post count will still not allow me to put up links, so it's this version;

"Tafsir Ibn Kathir 4 volume set English (Abridged) (Muhammad Anis Gad Khalil) with Arabic Qur'anic Text"

(Second question; when will I be able to put up links? )

Does anyone know much about 'Dar al Manarah' and 'Muhammad Anis Gad Khalil' ? i.e are they trustworthy sources and saved from the salafi influence?

Dar al-Manarah is a 'Salafi,' if you want to call it that, publication house. Note their publications of Fath al-Majid Sharh Kitab at-Tawheed and numerous books by Ibn al-Qayyim.

What is more, their translations are terrible ever since Selma Cook stopped editing for them. Or some of them are, anyway. Avoid anything translated by Muhammad Ghazny.

Well that answers the publishing house. I'd still like to know if there is any harmful change to the actual tafsir itself..seeing as how the Darussalam TIK (Tafsir Ibn Kathir) explicitly says "Abridged by a group of scholars under the supervision of..." and the other TIK doesn't..so I guess in the end I'm wondering just how Muhammad Anis Gad Khalil translated it..

If you look at the page count, it would have to have been even more heavily abridged than the Darussalam translation, because the Darussalam translation is over 6,000 pages and this one is around 2500 or whereabouts.

Well it could be like that if you compare the two with the Darussalam translation as the objective one, but it could also be the other way around. Not too sure >_

The darussalam edition is so long because it's arranged very strangely (and terribly, in my opinion).

So... the Darussalam team added material now?

Issue: Arabic books almost always seem to be shorter. My wife's copy of al-Fawa'id is much shorter than my English version but it has the same content.
I'm not sure. I don't have either. I just thought of that comparison after thinking about how much bigger DS's Riyad-us-Saliheen is compared to other publisher's RuS, while knowing that the difference is the commentary
