Most Sufis believe that he is, some scholars do not. Shaykh Tajuddin Ahmad bin Ata'illah al-Iskandari (rah) said that there is a consensus among the Sufis on him being alive.

Wa'Allahu a´lam.

Not sure on the answer to this but I shall share the following and remember Allah knows best.

Khidr's appearance at Muhammad's funeral is related as follows:
A powerful-looking, fine-featured, handsome man with a white beard came leaping over the backs of the people till he reached - where the sacred body... lay. Weeping bitterly, he turned toward the Companions and paid his condolences. Abu Bakr and 'Ali said that he was Khidr. (Ibn al-Jazari 1994, p. 228.)

Abu Bakr and 'Ali are the ones to identify him is noteworthy. They are the only two Companions of Muhammad to whom are ascribed esoteric (batini) knowledge. This is why all Sufi silsilas (spiritual chains of investiture) derive from them and them alone. This hidden knowledge is not learned, it must be bestowed by God.

It also serves people justifying their bid'ah since 'Khidr' told them so and so...

Imam Nawawiy () states, 'The amount of incidents and occurrences regarding him as well as the experiences of the pious with him are innumerable.’ (Fathul Bari vol.6 pg.528) although the opposite view is also related from him if I'm not wrong.

Wassalam.

As-Salamu ´alaykum,

The narration about the Prophet's (salla'Allahu ´alayhi wa alihi wa sallam) funeral has been declared weak, as has other narrations, such as the one of Sayyidina Idris and Sayyidina Khadir (´alayhim as-salam) visiting Al-Quds. Therefore the Muhaddithin have generally been of the belief that these narrations cannot be used as proofs to claim that he was alive, and therefore casted doubts on him being alive. To that one may add that him being alive during the time of An-Nabi's funeral (salla'Allahu ´alayhi wa alihi wa sallam) does not necessitate him being alive to day, ´alayhi as-salam.

Conflicting reports have come from both Nawawi and Hafidh Ibn Hajar; and as far as I know, it is all from their own pens.
Like mentioned, An-Nawawi mentioned that there are a lot of reported incidents; and he has also expressed doubt upon his existence; however, his own student mentioned that it was known that Al-Khidr (´alayhi as-salam) used to frequent the Imam (Nawawi). It may be that it is a case where he had doubts until they were removed, and hence both rejection and affirmation are to be found. Similarly it has been rejected by al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (rah), but it has also been seemingly affirmed; and he mentioned him from amongst the Sahaba of An-Nabi, salla'Allahu ´alayhi wa alihi wa sallam.

Wa'Allahu a´lam.

Who is khidr ? What I mean is I know who Khidr is as in described in the Quran or Sunnah but who is he ? What are the views
of muslim scholars on how he came to be Khidr ? who was he before ? Whats his life story ? What is his duty on earth ?

I know he is a human and he is a Awliya not an Ambia and he is belived to live upto the time of Dajjal as described by Esoteric writings . Interesting thing to know ....

Historically, Sayyidina Khadir (´alayhi as-salam) being a Nabi has been the majority view.

A shaikh from Waziristan told me he has seen him,and that khidr had given him a durood to recite:
"ALLAHUMMA SALLE ALA MAN MINHO IN SHAQQATEL ASRAR".
The respected shaikh also told me his real name......which I have forgotten, sort of Balya Ibne Malkan?.....but I am not sure if I remember it correctly.

in wikipedia it is written that Khidr (A) will live till time of Dajjal - and when Dajjal tries to kill Khidr (A) he wont be able to kill him - coz Khidr (A) drank from fountain of Life ( Aab e Hayyat ) so i guess he is still alive now and will be alive till time of Dajjal - thats what i wanted to confirm and from report of your Shaikh - it is confirmed

He is a tark-e-dunia sort of a pious person and is my sheikh of friend, he personally told me not to reveal his identity to people so my lips are sealed.
