I understanding during wudu, it is necessary to wash the face completely.
But I fear the shaitan is getting the better of me and now and I am falling for the whispers. I am spending quite alot of time up to 3mins just washing my face alone, making sure it is completely washed. It is not only wasting water but it is a waste of my precious time to be in the bathroom. Is it even a requirement for all the face to be washed and none to be left dry? If so, how should it be done, I'm convinced the videos on youtube of people doing wudu, haven't covered all the face with water |

The boundaries of the face are from the top of the forehead (below the hairline) to the chin and from ear to ear - these must be washed once or thrice for sunnah. Just take some water and pass it over your face - then rub your face for good measure to clear any doubts. It should take less than 30 seconds to wash the face three times completely. |

I understanding during wudu, it is necessary to wash the face completely. First, in answer to your question; "Is it even a requirement for all the face to be washed and none to be left dry?" The answer is "Yes". But consider this: It is FARDH (obligatory) to wash your face once during wudu. As the brother in the post above this said, face is from the top of the forehead to the bottom part of the chin, and from the front of one ear to the front of the other ear (in other words, where the ears start and not actually the entire ears, hope that makes sense). Washing face (or any part) three times during wudu is SUNNAH, not FARDH. Of course, that doesn't mean that we should just neglect the sunnah, but what it does mean is that if not done thrice, your wudu is still valid, and salat made properly after such a wudu is still valid, and you can do anything else which requires wudu (such as touching the mushaf). When washing your face, cup both your hands together, fill them with water, and take this water towards your face and (keeping the above mentioned boundaries in mind) using your hands just wash your face with this water. Now rub your face (once with both hands, quickly, within these boundaries, maybe a bit out of the boundaries to "make sure") after the water is out of your hands. This will ensure any 'missed' spots are covered. By doing this, there is Insha'Allah physically no way that your face won't be washed completely AT LEAST once (thus fulfilling the fardh), even if let's say for some reason it didn't get washed completely all three times (also unlikely Insha'Allah). Do this three times if you are doing a thorough wudu following all sunnahs, or do it once if you're in a situation where you may not be able to do it thrice (such as limited amount of water available, maybe a public bathroom with people staring where you feel uncomfortable, etc). If you've got a beard Insha'Allah, run your fingers through it once (sunnah also). THAT'S IT. Just do the above three times, it should take 30 seconds or even less like the other brother said, and move on to the next step in your wudu. Do this beginning to end in your wudu, only giving enough time to each body part to wash it meeting the requirements of washing it completely (pour water on it, rub slightly outside of boundaries just to "make sure", do it 3x, move on). That's it, keep moving, do your best and don't think about it, just keep moving on (I know I keep saying that, but Insha'Allah if we keep telling ourselves that the waswasas will slow down and Insha'Allah disappear at some point). I heard in a bayan that there is a shaytaan whose only job is to whisper waswasa to us while we're making wudu. It's his only job so obviously he must be an expert at it. Don't fall for it bro. Make dua to Allah , follow the way to make wudu in a very "technical" manner, show yourself that you're meeting all the "technicalities", and move on. By technicality I mean, you wash your face thrice following the boundaries and rubbing it quickly in between to make sure all is covered. Now you start getting the waswasa and you think you should keep doing it. Now you tell yourself something to the effect of; "I just washed my face properly three times, I followed all the rules, and actually fardh is only to wash once, so even if I somehow missed washing it completely three times and only did it 2 times or 2 1/2 times instead, I know for sure that Insha'Allah my wudu is still valid so I got nothing to worry about... and even if I somehow managed to break all the laws of physics and my face didn't even get washed properly once after pouring water on it and rubbing it a whole 3 times, then I know my Allah swt is the Most Merciful and Insha'Allah He will forgive my mistakes)." Never forget that Allah is Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem, He will forgive our mistakes. If we make a mistake in our wudu, He will forgive us. However, the shayateen have got nothing to do with the believers and no concern with us except to make things as difficult for us as possible... to the point where I might end up getting so annoyed and irritated that I just stop doing wudu and stop making salat altogether. Once I've given up my salat, it is an open playground for shaitaan to steer me towards every imaginable sin. That is the end goal of the shayateen. May Allah keep all of us under His protection. Ameen. We've got a choice to fall for the shayateen, and risk losing our dunya and aakhirah... or Insha'Allah we've got a chance to rely on Allah and His abundantly vast Mercy, and by His grace make the best of the dunya and the aakhirah. Always remember this with any wasawis issues and Insha'Allah it will become that much easier for us to ignore the shayateen in these situations. Also brother remember always to read plenty of tawuz (A`udhu billahi min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem) and Bismillah all the time, stay engaged in Zikr of Allah all throughout the day, the kalima, Allahu'Akbar, Subhan'Allah, Alhamdulillah, Ayat-ul-kursi (very heavy on shaytaan, cuts him like a sharp sword Subhan'Allah), and any surahs and zikr you know by heart. Always, always stay engaged in Zikr in the back of your head, even while doing other things (of course with exception of places like bathroom etc). Surah Iklaas, Surah Falaq, Surah Naas 3 times each after Fajr and after Maghrib, then blow on your hands and (just quickly) rub your body with them (not private parts or feet etc of course), and Allah will protect the one who does that from all evil (hadith). Insha'Allah you will be just fine. Remember, always tell yourself to just move on. This is very important, otherwise we would all be there for hours trying to make wudu. Also, this is an amazingly beneficial book (PDF), please download and read it as many times as needed, as soon as possible: http://yunuspatel.co.za/books-whisperingsofshaitaan.php (JazakAllah to brother Amr123 for always posting this around the forum to where now I'm starting to remember to do it also Alhamdulillah). This book is a must-read for all Muslims, not just those who are visibly suffering from wasawis (it covers so much more than that!). Please remember in your duas. |
