Default Additional Umrahs while staying in Makkah
What is ruling on performing additional umrahs while staying in Makkah when we go to perform Umrah or Hajj from other country?

It is permissible to do so. Just make sure to follow all the rulings pertaining to it, such as from what (physical) point you must enter the state of ihram etc.

wassalam

The Imam of our local Masjid forbade us from doing such Umrahs as according to him it has no basis. Instead he asked us to do Tawaf as much as possible. Hence we did not perform additional Umrahs.

It could be a difference in the schools. In the Shafi'i school, it is allowed and recommended.

Performing more than one umrah when going to Makkah is permissable. Obviously, you'll have performed the first umrah when you go from another country. If you want to perform additional umrahs, you must wear the ihram and go to Masjid Ayesha (about 10-15 mins away from Haram) where you will pray the 2 rakah salah. Then you will perform umrah as normal.
However, ulamah recommend that you perform extra tawaf instead of performing so many umrahs as that is the greatest form of ibadah in the Haram.

im not sure thats correct, you can go to the mikaat at jeddah and do it from there, if you can do it from majid ayesha then why dont we just wait till we get there and do ihram from there instead of doing niyyah in the plane when mikaat is close?

Assalam Alaikum.

Whatever brother Abdullah90 wrote is absolutely correct.

Because, the plane crosses the miqaat in air. And miqaat can not be crossed unless you are in Ihram. Therefore making niyaah and getting yourself in Ihram is necessary, before the plane crosses miqaat. However, once you are in Makkah, and you want to perform another umrah, then Masjid Ayesha is the miqaat for you.

Also, it is more virtuous to perform tawaaf, rather than doing additional umrah.

jazakallah for clarifying,

There is also a miqaat in jeddah - they call it big (bari) meeqat. Whats all that about then?

Assalam Alaikum.

The miqaat in Jeddah is for the people coming from the sea.

It is very simple. Consider Makkah to be within a circle. The circle is called Miqaat. You can not cross that circle unless you are in Ihram. The plane crosses the miqaat in air, therefore, it is necessary to put yourself in Ihram in the plane.

Asslamo Allaikum,

So it would be superior according to Shaf'ae Madhab to perform extra Umrahs instead of extra Tawafs?

I didn't say that.

In the Shafi'i school, any act that is sunnah (recommended) is recommended to do frequently.

So it is recommended to do extra tawwaafs. And it is also recommended to do extra Umrahs.... meaning that 3 umrahs are better than 1. And 3 extra tawwaafs are better than 1 extra tawwaaf.

I never said that 1 extra Umrah is better than 1 extra tawwaaf. Allahu 'a'lam as to that.

Also, i'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say "extra tawwaafs." Do you mean the optional tawwaafs that are sunnahs of Hajj? Or do you mean "extra" tawwaafs that are not part of Hajj or Umrah?

Asslamo Allaikum,

What I meant to ask is what is superior in the Shaf'ae Madhab to do optional Tawaaf or to perform optional Umrahs? As in the Hanafi Madhab it is recommended to perform extra Tawaafs rather then extra Umrahs.
